Some Pics From This Week's 1100 Mile Loop Around Alaska

This week I headed north up the Glenn, then the Richardson, through Fairbanks and back down the Parks. Yea, we name our highways up here. You know you're talking to a tourist if they call out a highway by its numbers.

Hit a couple little trails and detours, made it up as I went and found camp when I was tired of driving.

You could take the ferry from Bellingham!
Get off the boat in Whittier and your first leg of the trip takes you through a mountain.

I lived in the 907 for 40+ years, and that comment kind of touches on one of the reasons I moved on. AK is basically an island, isolated from the rest of the world by the tyranny of distance.
And about the highway names-it does no good to ask an Alaskan what number highway you shoud be on, I knew they had numbers but half of the residents couldn't tell you which one was which.
