So....small little annoyance with the stock fender flares on my wife's 22 Bronco BB. On a given weekend I was allowed visitation rights while she was at work. I promptly took it out into the woods without telling her. After going out and running in the mud for a while I brought the vehicle home and washed it to destroy the evidence. What I have found is that the dirt that kicked up onto the fender flares will not completely wash off. You have to use "back to black" or some such to hide the proof of my misspent afternoon. This "fix" only lasts for a short period of time. I have now been busted. Thanks Ford!

Anyone else had issues with the flares and have you found a permanent solution other than changing or removing them?

People will tell you Scrubbing Bubbles, which will help. I say it depends on the mud. Mine were permanently stained the first weekend on some good ol' Texas limestone mud. If you prep them with that wipe on cerakote (is that it?), it's supposed to just wash off, but isn't just a wipe on process.

The plastic flares on the BB are pretty bad. I have only went out on some light stuff and they are scratched all the hell and back - along with the backs of the side mirrors and the door handles.

I almost consider them disposable, but the door handle and rear view mirrors are a bit harder to replace.

In a pinch you could pull them off and spray paint them I suppose - but that isn't going to last and will possibly look worse once the paint starts to come back off. I guess that's why aftermarket parts exist.

Y'know, the Scrubbing Bubbles looks better for a while after treatment; once it dries out, you see the stains again if they're going to reappear. So, just front run every time your wife goes to drive it and scrub 'em up. Simple, effective, maybe a little exhausting. lol

I apply Chemical Brothers VRP on my flares after every few washes.

Same. VRP from Chemical Brothers or Adam's VRT is the only way.

It would appear that OP is in the 'Find Out' stage of 'Fuck Around'

I've had good luck by hitting them with Finish Line Bike Wash (degreaser) and then going over them with Griot's Vinyl and Trim Restorer

Chemical Guys makes a product Invinsible Super Cleaner that makes them look like new and not oily looking, it is a cleaner for plastic, and works great.

Use clay bar and Turtle Wax rubbing polish to destroy the evidence of your naughtiness.

You all clean these things? :ROFLMAO: Just kidding, sort of.
I've noticed it too. But I also don't put much effort into cleaning it.
I run the Bronco through an automatic car wash once every week or two.
The marks eventually disappear...
