2024 WildTrak 2 door

i noticed when i took the spare tire off
that there are vents under the tire mount.
The vents can be seen when the black
panel is removed on the inside of the
gate. When driving down the highway
at 70 (State Speed Limit) i thought i felt
a breeze.
why would they have such a big vent
in the tail gate? (Swing Gate)
what purpose would that serve?

i wonder if blocking it off would cause
a problem?

Thoughts?

It is so that the doors will close without having to be slammed, it lets air flow out so that there isn’t a huge pressure buildup as the last door closes. Jeeps also have them, and so do several trucks on the back of the cab.

Also for HVAC cabin air pressure balance and some relief when windows are open.

Soft tops are air leaky not sure if they leak enough...easy enough just to crack a window or two open.

Someone around here did install some fans in there for circulation when they were sleeping in the back. It's been a couple years since I saw it, but yeah, it's been done.

to turn on when sleeping inside for ventilation
... for exhaust fumes ...

That is why the vent system pulls air in just below the windshield, away from the exhaust exits.
Not the best location, but much better than above the mufflers.

I have seen side window fans for what you are thinking. Maybe look at that route.

I use a couple of these when I am sleeping in the back,

Someone else posted about using them, and for 7ish dollars I figured it was worth getting and trying out. They work well enough to keep the Bronco from getting all the windows fogged up being closed all the way. Just cut them to fit the windows and then set them on the window and adjust to fit.

I'd like to see someone with some 3D printing skills create a way to mount a few of these in there to turn on when sleeping inside for ventilation.
RV Vent.webp
No need for crappy looking 3D parts. Easily made of sheet ABS. Many methods to do it.

You set the fans to blow ~outward~ and leave a window cracked up forward... was how I recall it being done.

If you haven't used it add site:bronco6g.com to any Google search query. It searches far better than any built in site tools. Works for any website.

I would hope, if the fans were on because owner/occupant(s) were sleeping and needed some ventilation... that the engine would be off. Whether those fans pulled the night air in, or cabin air out, no exhaust to be an issue.

And if the engine were running, then just use the vehicle fans to vent the cabin.

Thanks. I’ve used a set of those. They work great when the weather is nice, not so much when its nasty which is when condensation is the worst.
I think I found the post @Brian_B was mentioning, or a similar one with a version that mods the tailgate hump cover instead which is more straight forward and easy to plug into a portable power supply.
