This might be a foolish question but here goes. I test drove a 2023 Wildtrak today that a local dealer got in. It was in transport mode. It did not have a lot of power to pass another car? Does a Wildtrak usually do well passing cars from 15mph ? I was not impressed. Maybe transport model limits HP output?

Was it a dealer stock or someone else's reservation?

No complaints cruising around in normal mode. Acceleration is everything you’d expect a vehicle to have. Never lacking.

Goes from “no complaints” to “damned impressive” whenever I put it in sport mode

Transport mode shouldn't effect performance. It is used to preserve the battery.

Dealer told me it’s a stock vehicle had a blue window sticker. It was available for sale.

Was it a dealer stock or someone else's reservation?

Have no clue what transport mode is, but when I mash on that accelerator my Bronco gets up and goes. Sport mode is noticeably better. Not once had an issue with acceleration.

There is some turbo lag when you hit the gas. You have to give the turbos time to spool up...Once you do though it should be pretty quick.

Zero issues. If anything, I think the other people around me are routinely shocked a brick can accelerate like that.

“Transport Mode” sounds like some dealer sales BS to me. Pin them down on it.

For what it is, it gets up and goes. It is not a Porsche Cayenne however so don’t expect it to do things it’s not intended to do.

What is this “Transport Mode” you speak of? Never seen it or heard of it.
I have a 23’ WT as well. Built in mid February this year.

If you simply mat it from idle and expect immediate acceleration you'll be disappointed. That's true of all turbo engines, it's also true of most N/A engines other than the high power, high performance ones. It's always been the case that you can either build RPMs sitting still in neutral or against the brakes. The other, more practical option is to "roll" into the throttle and let the RPMs come up to about 2000, then mat it. There's a feel to how much beans you can give it before it bogs itself down.

Once in the real power band, the 2.7 pulls pretty hard for a 2-1/2 ton truck. No issues passing.

Sounds like Valet mode.

23 Wildtrak here as well and all the above is accurate. Low gearing, 35’s, 5000lbs, very small turbos and small displacement tuned for torque keep expectations in check.

These Bronco's even with the 2.7 are painfully slow. That said unless someone is actively trying to not let you pass, ie racing you, you should have no problems passing normal traffic.

Go back and try it again.
  1. Turn key to 'on' position.
  2. Wait for chimes to stop.
  3. Depress brake pedal 5 times.
  4. Turn four-way flashers on 5 times.
  5. Horn will honk when out of transport mode.
