Doesn't look to bad, although it sucks.
I can't believe the air bags went off.
I hope it works out and quickly.
My wife hit a deer with her Explorer in October and we still are waiting for parts to get it fixed.

This happened on my morning commute. First and most importantly, nobody was hurt.

I had the right-of-way, a Ford Focus pulled out in front of me to cross the intersection (she was forthright that she couldn’t see me because she hadn’t scraped the frost off her windows) as I entered the intersection at normal speed (30 MPH). I didn’t even have time to react and punched my brakes barely before hitting her front driver’s side quarter panel, completely caving it in.

Waiting to figure out if it’s totaled or will be fixed. Body shop at the local Ford dealer said it takes a lot of damage to total them, so I’m guessing it’ll be a fixer. She said they have a Bronco Sport in the shop right now and the current estimate is at $28,000 and it still isn’t totaled.

If anybody has suggestions for things I need to ask about/look for, please let me know. Obviously, I’m concerned parts that might be damaged won’t get replaced and will then cause issues later. So bummed. Crazy to think two days ago I was parking at the far end of the parking lot to avoid door dings.

Also, I just gotta say, airbags smell horrible when deployed.

Man, I am so sorry. I hope you get in a new bronco or this one fixed quickly. You had a nice build going. It really was the perfect modern throwback.

Does it default to 2wd (rear wheel drive) until you engage the 4wd feature? If so, is it safe to drive a high speeds in 4wd for long distance?
First off there are different types of 4WD/AWD systems so it can be confusing.

The Bronco has two types available, the standard 4WD system and the Advance 4WD.

Standard is 2WD when not put into 4WD, and once in 4WD it stays in 4WD until you switch back to 2WD; which is rear wheels. For this system you should only drive in 4WD when there is limited traction and the wheels can slip when turning so as there is no binding on the system; dry payment NO GO! It will damage the system. But if traveling on snow or a dirt road where there is slippage, you can drive as fast as "safe speed for conditions" without any problems.

i.e. I commuted 22 miles across a mountain in my Tacoma with standard 4WD engaged to whole way and could, where safe to do so, go 50MPH. But if I came across a part of the road that was dry, especially if if a turn coming up, I switched from 4WD to 2WD for that part and back to 4WD when I hit the snow; all at speed with the clutch.

Advance 4WD will check for slippage and adjust power accordingly and is more forgiving, But I would never drive on dry pavement for any real distance in A4wd on dry pavement. It will compensate and try not bind to a degree, and is suppose to switch back and forth too; I think it's risking extra wear & tear. But, I still (*) wouldn't leave it in A4WD on dry pavement or barely wet even; your tires and traction control can handle that.

As for high speeds for long distances, you're more limited by what is safe than what the system can handle. Can I go at full hwy speeds in 4WD? Yes. Is it safe to do so?

How fast and can you stop and turn? You know, common sense.

*(correct me if I'm wrong here you guys in the know)

Wow, this was a bummer of an update to read on your thread tonight! Well, sort of a bummer as the good news you shared is that no one was hurt.

Good to hear that the other driver essentially admitted fault for not scraping the ice off her windows.

I live in southern California, less than a one hour drive from the beach, and keep ice scrapers in my vehicles. We have just enough mornings with ice that I find it a good practice to have them handy. Family of ours who live in cold/snowy states have been surprised when I pull the ice scraper out of my vehicle and don't need to borrow theirs while staying at their places in the winter. Of course, scraping off ice in 20 or 30 something degree weather with no snow is very different than lots of ice and/or many inches of snow in much colder weather.

I am so sorry to see this tragic situation, but am really glad to hear no one was hurt! I was just messing around on Tiresize.com again today & came back here to look at your Falken 255/85R16E MT's. Then I see this... You know, it is also kinda hard for a person to see a RED STOPLIGHT, when they have not cleared the ice from their window, let alone, be able to see the Bronco coming through the green light?!?!? I cannot begin to tell you how many knuckleheads I have almost wrecked into since getting my Bronco. Twice already it has been a guy going the wrong way on a one way street!! I hope they can get you fixed up, soon!(y)

Diminished value is something folks keep bringing up with regards to new Bronco accident repair mitigation process.

Really appreciate the kind words and support. After a few days of calls to body shops, insurance agents, etc., I’m feeling better about this situation. Of course, the wait will be long for some parts, but at the end of it all we’ll end up with this great truck to drive, and the story of how it kept me safe in a collision. We’re planning to drive this thing until the wheels fall off. So diminished value and a blemished title aren’t of concern.

I’ll say, it is weird to be back in the habit (like when we were waiting on delivery) of looking at pics of broncos to fill the void of driving it. You may have seen them elsewhere on B6G, but here are a couple more pics. Follow this thread and I’ll keep you all updated. And, when we get it back sometime this spring, you can follow our travels around the Great Lakes!

Noooooooo!!! I was looking forward to checking back in on your build. The last time I commented was literally the day before this happened. Any positive updates?

Body shop has been pleased with the number of parts they’ve been able to get already. Just waiting on 2-3 parts from what I understand, including the passenger side curtain airbag (currently backordered with no ETA). So, I’m cautiously optimistic that I’ll be back on the road before warm spring weather returns. šŸ¤ž

Current state of affairs, as of last week when my dad took this photo and sent it to me:

Glad to see you back on the road! Just a question on the install. I ordered the same steps and it came in 2 packages. The bracket box says 4dr, and wanted to know if yours was packaged the same? Looks like the part numbers are correct per GoRhino, but figured I'd ask since you have done the install.

Not back on the road yet, unfortunately. Still waiting on the passenger curtain airbags and a couple small parts.

I was confused by the same thing with the GoRhino brackets. The 2 door kits ship with the 4 door bracket set, but only use two brackets per side (leaving two brackets unused). I called GoRhino customer service and they were very helpful identifying the brackets needed for the install. Don’t have my bronco (in the shop, as per the above), so unfortunately I can’t take photos to help.
