I too bought the console safe but should have bought the cargo safe instead since I put so much in the console that I need access too. Will likely sell to buy the cargo safe.
any specific cargo safe's you've looked at and like?

There are occasions when the G19 must reside in the Bronco for a couple of hours. The “safe” is really small and requires extreme caution in inserting/removing the G19 into/from the safe. I’m slightly envious of the tray with phone charger that’s available. Ultimately it’s a semi secure place to hide what needs hiding. It is absolutely not a place to expect to get to the thing in anything resembling a hurry.
Yes. I found a kydex holster, like a LightTuck, is good for situations like this. Doesn't add much bulk to the profile of the gun, and securely covers the trigger.

I like it. Perfect for the job. When you order, assuming from Console Vault, get the lock with a single set of numbers, much easier to use.

Yes, it closes off some space, you'd never get a full size proper .45 in there....and if you do use it for a weapon, it'll take up all the space. I don't carry, so I use it to lock away things that I need to. Wouldn't fly without it.

Waiting for an under seat lock box, but haven't really gotten under the seat to see what room there is to work with after a/c ducting for rear.

I have and use the console vault. There are times when I must leave my handgun in the vehicle. Used to use one of those lock boxes that are cabled to the seat frame. The console vault isn't necessarily more secure than that, but it is more convenient to use.

I carry a sub compact most of the time, but I have also put my full sized CZ in there a time it two.

Our Wildtrak has the Ford console safe and our Badlands has an $80 imitator.

The Ford safe is better built, no doubt.

However anybody breaking into either is going to ruin the console to get into them. So they are effectively the same.

We leave them unlocked so we can use the console storage space until we need to lock them up. There's still enough room in there to lock up what we need to.

Better use of money is just buying the pull out tailgate step / seat thing and storing whatever you have a need to secure in the "cooler" cant' get access to that without opening the tailgate then opening the step and then lifting the cover. If you are extra paranoid relocate the tool kit for spare swaps and store stuff there.

I am aware this is more expensive and you have to get the stuff out through a longer process than punching in a three-four digit code.

I installed one - I like it to secure a weapon while away from the truck. I still use the console for small things - I just place them on top of the safe lid (napkins, pens, knife, small flashlight, air gauge, etc).
So, do you feel it’s that much more secure or harder to defeat than just locking the center armrest? Admit I have no idea those are to get into.

I lock a pistol in there and I have an interior facing camera with LTE notifications and of course the loud ass alarm system.

If you have the doors off often it’s a must have if you ever want to leave anything in your vehicle. The dealership installed mine on delivery.
