Hey folks I need to pick your brains on this window issue. I have successfully done the window teach procedure from the manual before, but this time it won't let me do the teach because the window won't stay at the top of the frame long enough for it to happen. I've searched the forum, searched Google, an TouTube and everybody generally does the same method. I've seen a couple variations of using the first detent versus a second detent, holding down for 3 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, engine on or engine off, etc. I've got an appointment with Ford in a couple weeks to look at it but as you know if the window is all the way up you can't open the door without risking damage to the window. I'm sort of comfortable with forscan if that can help. At this point the part is like 50 bucks from AutoZone but it's the time and effort to change the thing that I don't want to deal with and honestly I'm pretty pissed that Ford can't even look at this for another couple weeks much less have the parts or anything else ready.

Please tell me one of you has the magic button combination!

Mine does this occasionally. When I do the relearn, I push the button all the way down not just the first position. It will take me 5-6 times to get it done correctly then will work fine.
Check and make sure your door is tightened down too. I feel like the one time I had it happen I just had put the doors back on and they weren’t all the way snug

Grrrr. If the reset isn't working I have no suggestion other than try unhooking the battery for a bit.

I haven't tried unhooking the battery yet... I guess it's really not going to mess up much of my personalization since I only use my phone for music.

Not sure if this helps or not, but has happened to me several times. When I learned how to reset on this forum I was able to fix and it then worked perfectly. I have had to train myself to release my finger immediately after pressing open or close so I don't unlean the auto open and close for the door. But this is where it may help you - I did not know the window was up and not working nd I opened the door. My window did not break or crack, it just popped out of the rubber groove with like a little snap sound. I then knew it needed a reset. I opened the door with the window stuck up at least twice with no damage. For what its worth.....

Had this exact thing happen the other day. I was able to inch the window up to the close position, making sure I didn't click all the way to auto. So go up to a few inches from closed, then another inch or so, then again. I don't know why it worked, but I could get the window all the way up that way.
After that, I did the calibration thing and it fixed it. One thing to note when doing this is not to push the switch into Auto. For me, if I push the button too hard and to the Auto mode, the calibration fails.

Make sure you check the rubber weather stripping at the top of the window.

I’ve done the relearn several times before with success. Recently I had a few days where the issue returned and wasn’t corrected with the standard relearn procedure. I noticed that a small 2” section of the weather stripping at the top had bowed down some, causing early contact with the window which was likely triggering a resistance safety, not allowing the window to close. After adjustment, it’s worked fine..

Mine did that, I opened the door, then did the hold it for 5 seconds down, then 5 seconds up, and that fixed it.
When the door was closed, it did exactly that, so the "top" reset never got to do the 5 second hold.

I've tried it with the door open, but I'm taking the top off tomorrow so I will try the learn process again without the top.

I've looked at the weather strip at the top and it's soft and looks the same from side to side. I even looked at the trim around the window bc I thought maybe it was putting pressure or drag on the glass, but I didn't see anything that gave me pause. Seems like the encoder on the window motor can go bad, but idk...I haven't heard of many people replacing the motor assy.

Probably just jinxed myself, but I took the top off (well, windows out and folded all the way back) on my WT this afternoon. :)

Minor update on this. I havent been able to take the battery loose yet, but I will this weekend. I did try the plain factory relearn and noticed something interesting. When I did this before, the window would go down and I would hold the button for 5 ish seconds and couldnt get anywhere. I went back to the 2 second hold and when I pulled the window up it hit the top like it has been, but it stopped going down ~2sec after hitting the top and me continuing to hold the up( 1st detent) button. This makes me think that the relearn is going through the motions, but the 2 second lock in of encoder position isnt being locked in until the window is below the top which would cause a range mismatch. wonder if on the way up i could have someone "pinch" the window between their hands and try to hold it up when the motor tries to force it down. This should give a higher encoder count to store if the window is physically in a higher position....unless we break the drive motor/cable.

I guess this is weird to me bc it seems like the module is working, but the auto retract is overriding the ability to teach. THis feels like something software related...and I wonder if there is a place in ForScan to manually enter a hex value to turn off the safety to let me teach it, or maybe I can enter the reduce speed encoder count and the stop encoder count manually?

I thought that I'd seen some people needing to take the door panel off and adjust a set screw on the window somewhere that adjusts how far it goes up (and maybe also pitch). Someone I recall had an issue where all the windows on their 4dr would roll up and immediately down and that physically lowering it was the solution. I may be mistaken, though, it's been a couple years.

Ready to have my mechanic install rollup/down handles now. Won't be a problem once I get the door off.
