I have a bmw x3. I hate this feature. I was on the phone with my daughter, pulled into the garage and had my foot on the brake while I spoke to her. The engine shut off, of course. When I hung up, I thought I had shut the engine off, took my foot off the brake and the car started and almost went through the back of the garage. Really scared me. That feature can be dangerous. Happened to my husband too. Bmws are also very quiet when running, which doesn’t help. I no longer use this feature.

I have a BMW X1 m35i and it’s far from quiet. Depends on the model.

But facts have proven that isn’t the case-the last time I replaced a starter on something was almost 30 years ago-and it was a Bradley, not a car.

Your logic is like if I don’t spend any money, I’ll have four or five times that amount lol
He did not say that he would have four or five times the starters, and yes , if you don't spend any money what you do have will last longer .

Ban automatics? That would take 97% of people off the road! Great idea.
Considering how bad most of them drive to begin with, is that truly a bad thing? šŸ¤£šŸ™ƒ

Seriously though, too many tards driving slow in the left lane glued to their phones who have the balls to get angry at us for honking/flashing them to pay attention and move over

This is my first vehicle with start/stop so I was curious. I ran 2 tanks of gas through with it always on and 2 with it always off. Exact same driving conditions for both tanks. I averaged 20.1 without and 20.3 with it on. The difference is not worth the wear and tear for me.

Has anyone else gotten different results showing greater MPG with start/stop engaged?

That's about right. The difference is real but small.

The auto start stop doesn't bother me. I've noticed no lurching or delayed starts that others have mentioned. Then again, I'm not hot rodding it from light to light with one foot on the brake and the other on the gas. The restart is basically instantaneous when I start to lift my foot from the brake pedal.

Just bought my first bronco (yay!) and I am getting used to the start/stop feature. I was aways told. turning off the vehicle and back on will wear out the ignition. Is there any truth to this? Is it hard on the vehicle overtime to turn off and back on? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

I'll vote for the first presidential candidate that promises to put an entire FBI team on tracking down the guy who came up with the auto stop/start feature so he can be brought to justice.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

I've always been uncomfortable with vehicles with Auto Start/Stop. The first time I experienced the "feature" it was somewhat disconcerting having the vehicle stop running at a red light. At first, I fought against it. Although I never fully reprogrammed it out of existence, I'd still generally turn it off each time I'd drive the vehicle. The Bronco version of ASS seems to be a little less aggressive than some of my former vehicles. However, there are still little annoyances such as it turning off the engine as I stop in my driveway, only to immediately turn back on as the transmission is shifted to Park.

But why so much vitriol for a "feature" that is pretty benign. Certain consumers seem to hate this capability. Is it because so many of us from the older generations have been taught that starting/stopping the engine is wasteful or even actually damaging to an engine? Or because we are stubborn and don't like being told what to do by new technology that is often perceived to be imposed on us by the "nanny state"?

Clearly, the new technology and engine tolerances make this capability non-destructive in terms of engine wear and tear. It also, on the whole, leads to some incremental MPG gains.

So why do so many of us still feel angst or discomfort with ASS?
At least in my F150, it kills the audio on re-start, which gets very annoying.

I am not a fan of the start/stop but on a positive note,I have to say Mazdas cylinder deactivation is waaayyyy worse, and you can’t disable it even with forscan. I’ve had it in 2 of the 4 CX5s I’ve owned and I feel it every time it turns on or off, especially at slower speeds around 35 mph, it’s horrible. Stupid idea to ruin a good engine.

I know all this crap is a result of overbearing government regs but damn….enough already.
