The 6G really isn't a rockcrawler.

It is, but just comparing to other 35" class vehicles it's bad at it.
Yeah, I'm hoping the aftermarket keeps at it and provides better solutions for lifts and geometry. Though I can't think of anything stock that does much better.

Last week I had my Bronco out with a couple Toyotas. Both had leveling kits but nothing else. Of the 3, I had the biggest tires but by far the least amount of ground clearance. The Bronco is shockingly low when you think about it.

We all know this but some of us may be more stubborn and unwilling to fully admit it.

I went out again last weekend and tried to hammer a square peg in a round hole again and it just isn't working. It's not the IFS that's the problem, is the ground clearance. Everybody else on that trail with similar size tires had no issues because they had far more belly height.

Any mods done to overcome this shortcoming will take away what makes the Bronco so good at everything else. I'm done trying, I'm leaving it stockish from here out and going to build a toy for the rocks.
Dude, you just need a winch! Haven't you watched King of the Hammers?!? 🧐;)

What model Yota? The 4Runner and Tacoma TRD Pro's come in at about 9.6" clearance and the Sasquatched Bronco has 11.5".

You are looking for solid axle clearance. Obstacles like that are good for linked suspension were you use the links as sliders. Bronco is not a the best in this category, it is a Ford ranger underneath. To many low hanging fruits!

Portals baby. That’s what we need!

And maybe a snowmobile track running right down the middle hooked to the rear tires.

not to mention the independent front suspension hanging low and the axles just waiting to hang up on something. Solid front axle will always be king over IFS for crawling. Is what it is.

I enjoy moderate terrain. No plans on rocks that big. Mine is a daily driver.

Who is doing a solid front axle outside of the Wrangler these days?

The axles were never once the problem and didn't hang up on anything, it was always breakover clearance. Solid axles would not fix the Bronco, it needs more belly height.

Linked suspension is a common modification to the last 50 years of vehicles. That early bronco probably still has the factory front locator bars. Most rock crawlers are not new vehicles, Google long arm suspension for jeeps, to see the benefits.

Here's the video.

At what point does it switch from being rock crawling to boulder crawling?
Damn, those are some big 'ol rocks!

Yeah, I wouldn't be trying to tackle those, and I love going out crawling/climbing.
Hope you still had fun.

Body lift and you could move the gas tank up? Not much tummy tucking available on the bronco.
