What is the appeal of the spare tire delete?

I’d love a bumper with swing arm tire carrier. This would create a need for a delete kit (I think). Will probably end up with the upgraded gate replacement hinges instead, along with a tire mounted rack, so I don’t have to “overland” through town every day. I haven’t crunched the numbers, but it might also be more economical as well.

I was glad yesterday that I didn’t delete the spare tire on my ‘00 Chevy S1O

And an air compressor and cans of Fix-a-Flat can’t do squat for a cut sidewall

I've been stranded before thanks to BMW no longer including spares to save weight and instead supplying a "mobility kit" that failed to seal a fairly small puncture. I can't imagine having the provision of a spare tire and then leaving it (speaking as a day-to-day thing, not organized trail rides where people might share a spare).

My BMW has run flats and did run on one flat. Not every tire installer can handle the install (more powerful tire machine) and none will put a plug in a run flat.

I always liked the way Land Rover would hide the Defender‘s spare tire with their really cool hood ornament.

I mean, if you didn’t know better, you’d swear they had no spare tire.

There would be some benefit to not running a spare while towing (although it would be more risky.) Saving 90lb from payload (on a 'squatch) and not having to deal with the tire/hitch conflict.

Maybe once I get the Bronco and Trailer I'll look for a way to relocate the spare to the trailer...right beside the trailer spare...

I'm ambivalent on run flats, the option of limping to a tire shop is great but like you say, they've got quite a few downsides.

My '16 M235i had regular summer tires on it at the time, the little can of fix-a-flat in the truck was ineffective and the little 12v compressor in the kit couldn't even keep up with the leak.

my experience:
I have a 2006 Hummer H3 it has 189,000 miles and has the original spare on it and it has never been off.

I had my 2012 JK for 7 years and even bought 5 fuel wheels, and I still only mounted the spare when going off-roading

MY22 I will leave the spare on looks naked with out

Bottom line I think it all depends on the truck..

Yep, but if you have bias ply tires and a lot of plugs you can make it work for a little while

I would be the guy who pulls his spare, then gets a flat miles from home. Like getting a flat and not having your wheel lock nut. Dumb.
