My motorhome came without a spare. I bought one right away. I can change a tire in 15 mins, what's the average wait time for roadside assistance? What are the odds he'll have what you need? What if you're in BFE (all the good places are there)? I bet I've used a spare as I often as I have my winch, tow strap, jump box, or shackles, but less than my tire chains.

Some people want their bronco to look like a chode. Or a dog with a cropped tail.

Maybe they should crop the ears (side view mirrors) too? I mean, if we’re reducing functionality, why stop at the thing that will get you moving again in one of the the most common roadside/trailside hazard scenarios?

“To each his/her own” can only go so far before people need to be called out for dumb decisions.

I'm 47 years old and never have had to swap out a spare tire for a flat one on any vehicle I had been driving. I've been left stranded several times with a battery that gave up the ghost suddenly though, and never thought to carry around a spare battery. I also ride motorcycles and have never second guessed a decision to ride cross country without a spare tire in tow.

I just really want to know.
I think it’s purely cosmetic.

I insist on having a full size spare and wouldn’t dream of leaving it behind.

I carry a puncture kit and compressor and have used them many many times to fix flats or punctures. Only needed to use my spare several times in my life but when it’s needed it’s NEEDED!

I don’t call AAA, I look after this type of stuff myself.

An extra tire is pretty far down my list of parts I'm concerned about failing beyond repair. And I wouldn't be surprised to hear that an extra tire is the only spare part some guys carry. As many have mentioned, they like the cool looks of the spare, that's what really matters.

You'd be amazed at how removing the spare can help climb a ledge. I haven't had one on my Jeep for many years. I just haven't seen a clean kit to remove the one from the Bronco. The Bronco will be a while before it sees any difficult trails but I have rubbed it in the dirt going on forest roads with deep holes.

When I went camping in the Jeep, I always brought a spare. Plenty of room for two people's gear and a spare when the rear seat is removed.

There's a really good chance the rear seats will be uninstalled from the Bronco very soon.

BTW, having AAA is looking after this type of stuff... I've never had a flat on the road that was not fixable via a plug kit.

Most removing it are just doing it to be different. It doesn't look nearly as good with it deleted, but to each his own. You lose major functionality by not having a spare on the trail, and it looks much worse...but people will still go out of their way to do it.

How do you hold that on? Are those 12 volt lights, or do you use the coverter?
that was a picture I found -- I will be using 12volt lights

I’d love a bumper with swing arm tire carrier. This would create a need for a delete kit (I think). Will probably end up with the upgraded gate replacement hinges instead, along with a tire mounted rack, so I don’t have to “overland” through town every day. I haven’t crunched the numbers, but it might also be more economical as well.
JCR has this. I would like it closer to the tailgate and may modify it but I can fit a small folding table behind it for camping,.. I mean "overlanding" :)

Some people do it when upgrading bumpers that don't support a spare on the gate. Also it's fucking heavy. There's a reason IbisTek makes a crane for the tac vic spares

It's only overlanding if it comes from the overland region of YouTube, otherwise it's spakling car camping.

Where would you legally mount your vintage "Bronco" plate otherwise?

I'm undecided on this look. Anyone have side view pics of a 2door without the spare? I wonder if it looks too short and square?
