Fords about money. Not heritage. Lucky we even got a 2 door. They had to release the vehicle before the target market hit
the nursing homes.
Now, if they would only deliver it before I get put in a home!

You'd be wrong. The F-150 based Broncos outsold the little Gen 1 Broncos by a huge margin. The 1st Broncos were not some beloved vehicle at the time. They were a niche vehicle that barely sold enough to be worth building. They were not like the Mustang which sold a half million in the first year.

Opinions are simply opinions, not necessarily based on actual facts and not necessarily correct….opinions…

So, to be more specific, as the Bronco morfed into a full size 4x4 truck, the serious off readers went elsewhere….

Yes and no. The serious off roader going elsewhere is not what killed the Bronco. The American buyer going elsewhere is what did. At the time, Americans wanted more comfort and, gasp, moar doors..

Same with the 90's Bronco.

Compare that to the Explorer and the answer was obvious. More Doors.

Add in late 90's Expedition production numbers and Ford probably re-captured most of the lost Bronco sales.

All that said, a larger 3 row Bronco makes sense. As long as they do it right and not just tack on 18" to the ass end.

And to all the 2-door purists clutching their pearls and yelling at the clouds, the new Bronco doesn't get green lit without a 4-door. I am sure Ford observed the quick rollercoaster that was the FJ and realized averaging 25k units a year was not worth a billion dollar investment

That'd be money!

IMO the Explorer Timberline is an obvious cash grab. Just some AT's and lipstick on a soccer mom vehicle. Would have been great to see a truck based BOF SUV. My hunch is there's plenty of guys who settled on an F150 who don't need a truck but would buy this in a heartbeat.
I feel personally attacked

Those figures go to show that Ford doesn't need to label the Gen2 Excursion with a Bronco Badge. Just as the Blazer want-to-be, Gen2-6 Bronco's should have never carried the Bronco Badge.

But pair those figures with current Bronco demand and the explosion of the "active lifestyle" (whether real or Insta-grammed) and any forward thinking businessman can see a market opportunity.

Ford doesn't build vehicles for the purist and could care less about off-roaders vs mall crawlers. They just want to sell vehicles and dominate market share if possible.

Gen 1 Expys were the shit, taking on any F150 off road mods.
Depends on what all you want to do. That optional air-ride system limits how high you can lift the truck. They are heavy pigs compared to the F150.

PS Buy my Expy 😂

It would make sense. Consider stretch the wheelbase and you fain two possible new versions, a 7 passenger suv and a 5 passenger pickup Gladiator style . Ineos has a Grenadier pickup in the works. Btw
