14K mi, Spare never rotated in; should I start now?

Should I rotate the spare in at 14K miles?

I got that "deal" where the ford dealership does free oil changes and tire rotations etc. They've never done 5-tire rotation; only do 4. I now have a jack and tools and a garage... so I could do that on my own but... my question is... is it too late?

EDIT (commented below) After measuring, my delta is 1/32" or 0.03125". So is 1/32" going to cause issues? I'm leaning to no and rotate it in now or never. 🤷‍♂️

Other ancillary info that may play a part:
- delivery Nov 21
- about to hit 14,000 mi
- location == phoenix, but garage kept
- mostly road, but about 20 offroad trips; I'd say 15% of miles offroad

What is you tread depth difference?

I think you'll be fine regardless.

I'd say sure if tread depth is less than say 1/8" different. And rotate it in to the highest wear location, right rear? I'm not big on frequent rotation so long as tires are wearing fairly uniformly anyway. Another thought: If you are changing tire type when you need new ones rotate it in and buy 5. If you're getting the same tires don't rotate it in and save it for the spare on those, only buying 4.

Interested to hear others opinions. I had one of my original tires replaced at about 20k. I discussed the difference in tread depth with discount tire and they didn’t have any concerns rotating in a new tire amongst tires with usage. If I recall, they indicated that matching tire tread depths was a significant issue on all wheel drives.

I am really curious about this as well. I have 15k miles and I have just did my second 4 wheel rotation today. So it will be 20k before I will be able to rotate the 5th. Thinking of keeping a dedicated spare. I like the territories but they seem to be wearing really quickly. Based on my gauge the spare is 17/32 and the other four are 9-11/32nds. They seem to be wearing down quick. I expected to get 40 thousand miles out of these tires but maybe I am delusional. I am just not sure if others are seeing the same wear out of the Sasquatch tires or if I got a bad batch. Thoughts?

My last tire rotation the guy told me they measure the tires before doing a tire rotation and will only do it if the tires are within a certain spec.

I said fine, do it. If they would have only done a 4 tire rotation I still would have thrown the spare on the rear passenger to rotate it in myself.

Ended up he said they could do a 5 tire rotation after measuring.

What that spec is I don't remember, but it wasn't determined by mileage but tread depth

Should be fine as long as you haven't been doing burnouts or smoking them on the trail.

It needs to be within 3/32" of the tire on the other side of the axle.

If it does measure within, put it on the right rear to start.

WhyTF wouldn't they rotate five?!?
It's waaaayyyy easier!!! Only have to jack one wheel at a time!!!
Stoopiduty, especially AT DEALERS bothers me.
Yes! Rotate as many tires as you have...they will last longer.

Noted (all comments above), ty.

Measuring with a Neiko digital caliper from the top of the two same tread pieces, tire to tire, down to the gap in between.

The ones on the truck are about ~7.3mm depth and my spare is 11mm, so we're looking about ABOUT a ~4mm difference; which is 0.15748 inches.

Measured many times but then in inches and got 29/64 (spare) and ~21/64 (pass rear, some parts like 23/64): That's 0.453125 - 0.328125 = 0.125", which == 1/8".

Going by the 3/32" measurement (aforementioned in thread and I confirmed from a few sites), my delta is 1/32 or 0.03125".

So... the question is: Is 1/32" going to cause problems... I'm leaning to assume NO... however that said I am not a drivetrain geometry expert by any means. I'm thinking I either rotate the spare in NOW or NEVER; last chance.

THOUGHTS? lol.

My dealer does a 5-tire rotation. I always go in and share this pic. And I mark the spare to verify.
