It is not 33 out of total broncos produced. Its 33 out of forum members- those already members and those who joined once their motors blew. You CANNOT use total 2.7’s produced in the calculation. We don’t know how many are out there or how many out there have or have not failed. All we use this data for is based on what we know. There has been date ranges established, etc but we have not calculated a failure rate because we can’t. Neither can you unless you somehow know the total number of 2.7’s sold, driven and how many have or have not failed.
Thanks for setting the record straight on the variables involved in the equation. This is a simple matter of common sense-no special knowledge of statistics required-and yet it seems every week another moron comes along making the same inane assumptions that you corrected.

Math, go figure eh?
I got my Bronco back today. Engine is Julian 21273 MB3E 6006AA. Took 31 hours total and everything seems to be ok. Still the only one that had a failure at my dealer. Not sure what I can ask from Ford as restitution since I purchased the maintenance plan and the extended warranty when I bought it.

711? I thought the large number was 121, or is that just me and a few others? And Julian Date 21273 is September 30th!

Hope we get some date ranges and response from Ford soon.

This is very interesting George! It appears the tech that replaced your engine removed the LH cyl head so that he could bar the motor over and remove the torque converter bolts. He then reinstalled it to return the core. He would have gotten a good look at the valve in question and could tell us for certain if it was an intake or exhaust, and which cylinder was the point of failure.

Wouldn’t it be nice to know that Ford thinks they fixed the problem on engines built on 212273 and newer?

To me, the smoking gun (or smoking engine?) is that we don't have dozens of reports of the 2.3L having the same problem. If the two engines have a similar, normal failure rate, we'd be able to tell. The forum is not THAT heavily biased to the 2.7L side.

I don't think it's justified for people to be paranoid that every 2.7L is a ticking bomb, but it's clear that, at least for a time, there was a higher incidence of engine failure that was unique to the 2.7L.

I’m a big believer in “if you can’t make someone listen to you, find the person they have to listen to”. I do think that if enough people file complaints, something may get triggered. I wish I knew how many for the same thing acts as the trigger.
Sounds like Karen wanting to speak with a manager TBH

The paperwork said cylinder 5. I can call and verify which valve on Monday.

I can see how it can come across that way. But it’s the reason the NHTSA has this set up this way. File enough reports and there’s an investigation. Call it Karen-like if you will but there has to be another way to get Ford to at least acknowledge the problem.

Wow, it looks like the work here is paying off!
I am pretty shocked that Motortrend published this already, but I love it.

Yep, it's paying off for the ones that failed and the ones that are going to fail in the future but probably not going to help the resale value of our Broncos down the road especially the ones built with AA's on them.
