Do most of the 2.7 failures happen after the first oil change? I just read about the SN Plus specification for turbo engine motor oils. Is it possible that the "first oil change" was with a non SN Plus oil. If that were the case, could a low speed pre ignition (LSPI) event crack an existing weak valve stem? I believe 93 octane gas reduces knock. Do we know what octane the blown engine was running? My Black Diamond with a 2.7 is slated to be built in the next few days.

F150 went from a -C to ML3Z-6006-G with an engineering number of ML3E-6006-EA to ML3E-6006-EB.

Bronco long block has not changed. Service MB3Z-6006-A, engineering MB3E-6006-AA. I think they said to use a -E service unit for now that doesn't have the oil cooler installed but I don't think this is technically a part change, just a way to offer the most complete service assembly they can supply in a reasonable amount of time. Don't ask me why we can get oil coolers and the plant can't but it's like them not being able to install bull bars and I can get them all day long from the PDC.
This illustrates what I mean about service part numbers. On a major assembly like an engine there can be lots of numbers that are essentially the same engine just dressed differently. You can't take a service number and trace it back to it's engineering number, you can only follow the supersessions from the original engineering number forward...at least thats the way the catalog is designed to work. Important when you guys look at part numbers for replacement engines you take that into account

Update - today two more engine build-dates in OP table & graphs -
line# 37) - 21224 - (12 Aug) . . . 4th engine on this date
line# 38) - 21214 - (02 Aug) . . . 2nd on this date

Now 30 total, and 28 are still within '2-month Containment' range.
As these blown engines accumulate, the two 'hot zones' become more pronounced. And same w the 'clear gap'
- 'hot zone 1' - ebd 159 thru 182 - 16 blown engines
- 'hot zone 2' - ebd 207 thru 224 - 12 blown engines

- 'clear gap' - still 24-days - 183 thru 206
Blown 2.7L ebds - 2mo Contain - 2022.Feb.21.webp

Update #2 - When did Lima start using the new valves ?
- in Good Engines thread by @VictoryLights, you can see a strange thing
- in his table of engine build-dates, there's a gap of more than a month w no engines built between 21228 and 21266 - i.e. none between Aug 16 and Sept 23

? Why did Lima stop making Bronco V6's for more than a month ?
- I'd bet this is when they changed over to the new valves, approx 21266
- so @mountainbronco, getting back to your question last Thursday - yes, I believe your 21267 has the new valves

? Has anyone seen an engine build-date between 21228 and 21266 ?
- might narrow the timeframe when Lima changed over
Mine is 266, 3,800 miles.

So you’re comparing failed fuel pumps to blown motors????? Ahhhhh!!!!
nope just saying all manufacturers have problems and that’s a pretty big one (millions) heading down the highway in heavy traffic and your fuel pump goes and your vehicle shuts down.

5 years 60k warranty on powertrain really isn’t enough IMHO after an engine blows up

Good morning. I wanted to pass on based on the above that my bronco was originally selected to be built on September 14, 2021. On October 2, I was told by my sales rep that it had been pushed back 7 weeks, i.e.,. until Mid November, which is when it was built. I think I dodged a bullet. JD 21319.
Mine is 21312. Hopefully we both dodged the bullet. This whole Ford Bronco fiasco is a joke. Starting with the MIC tops. 🤮

Shoot. I’m a 21214 and 1 build away from the first 21214 to give up the ghost. It just feels like a ticking time bomb.

I feel your sorrow. Not the kind of feeling you want after buying a brand new truck. You would think Ford would reach out with something reassuring to say.

Can’t speak for everyone, but my dealer changed my oil at 1500 miles. Have to assume they used the correct spec. I did confirm level was correct. I’ve also only run premium fuel. Have never heard any pinging or any signs of detonation. My loaner F150 coyote pings like a mofo on the cheap gas.

Pretty sure the Ford account get's as close to this thread as a hooker gets to a church on Sunday.
🤣….but I’m guessing they’re watching 👀

Ford Bronco 2.7L blown engine failure list . . 68 so far [Updated: December 13, 2022] TlEn4vr

Going strong no issues hitting just over 5k miles. Few long stints 8-9hr drives and a few weekends offroading as well so it's not been babied.
