I have the ICON Coilover set installed on my Bronco. I asked a shop to lift 1", but they're saying they have to remove the coilovers to make that large of an adjustment. They want $1,000 for that, when I was under the impression they can be adjusted while installed. I guess the issue is possibly stripping threads on the coiilovers.

Anyone with experience on this front?

I don't have experience w/ the ICONs but the Eibach 2.0s can be adjusted w/o removal...just lift the truck to take the weight off the springs. Seems to me the ICONs, if they claim to be adjustable, shouldn't be any different but I could be wrong.

Not ICON, but I adjusted my DirtLogic coilovers while on the truck. Probably should have jacked up the truck to take the weight off but didn't and was still able to crank them up an inch. Just make sure you have the correct spanner wrench.

Yes, Icons can be easily adjusted on the vehicle. I jack up the corner I’m adjusting to reduce as much preload as possible and spray the threads with WD-40. No problems at all.

The shop’s response is questionable and probably best avoided in the future.

It's quite annoying because the next closest 4x4 shop around here is a bit of a haul. I would try it on my driveway but the last time I took off these 37" tires to install hub-centric rings I nearly had a heart attack trying to put the tires back on.

Is a 1" lift on these ICONs too much to ask? I keep pushing back to the shop but they continue giving reasons they can't do it. "Not enough room for a 1" adjustment, would have to compress the spring."

I am no authority on this subject so I won't keep pushing it with these guys. Even ICON replied to my support question and said they're "designed to be adjusted on the vehicle" but I'm wondering if 1" is pushing the limit.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I still hope to go to another shop for their opinion. Despite also thinking that 1" is more of a peace-of-mind adjustment than functional.

The video Kodiak linked to is a good one. Also note that adding 1" of lift is going to be less than 1" of adjustment on the spring collar.

I'm not familiar w/ the ICONs, Are they adjusted from the top or under the spring?

You may not even need to remove the tires. If you can reach the collar of the coilover at full droop when the bronco is lifted, you should be able to adjust with the tires still on.

From the top, rotating that collar downward.

Why on earth are you still talking to that shop? Go out to your garage and take a couple minutes to do it yourself.

You need two things

A buddy
A case of beer
I guess that’s why I usually do these things by myself falling over drunk. I buy expensive beer and then don’t want to invited anyone over.

front motion ratio is 1.6 at SAS ride height and goes up as you add lift. So 1” of lift is likely going to be <0.625” at the shock. Rear MR is 1.1 so <0.9” at shock. This shouldn’t be too difficult if you take the weight off of the wheel.
