I have to admit, my stomach sank a little when the new announcements hit last week right after I canceled. Then I saw the details about the assembly (which at least now explains the $500 cost to do it on-site), and I felt pretty good again. For some folks with the time and skill, it could be a fun project.

Not for me, and not at that price point.
What was not mentioned was the continued "delays." It's just another hype video to buy some more time.

For my delivery from TOR it was around the $400. That is about 450 miles away. I did my math wrong earlier, ADV was actually over 75% more. That was the ADV day 1 February 2022 price. They have threatened that they would be increasing shipping costs so not sure if that still holds. Could be considerably more by now.
Honestly that shipping rate isn't bad, especially if it was to a residential address

Back to topic at hand, having the customer have to basically do the full final assembly. Woof, that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

This reminds me of a product me and one of my suppliers tried to launch years ago. It was going to be the hot new thing, but they completely over engineered it and fumbled the execution. Instructions were terrible(they outsourced the design and instructions. Some measurements were metric, some were standard some were a bastard combination of the two to form a measurement that doesn't exist lol), the things they did to try and help the customer ended up hurting them. In the end, they had a product that was way over the top for it's purpose, way more expensive than the competition that ultimately beat us to the punch in release.

In all honesty the $700+ for ADV sounded reasonable at the time of order back in 2/22. But in reality $300 extra for the exact same service is just another upcharge. In fact, $100 or so of the TOR $400 delivery fee was the extra insurance I paid which I only did because I thought it was such a bargain and I wanted to make sure the shipping company took extra care (didn't want any delays by sending back a damaged top).

Yeah, I’m glad I canceled after seeing that. At that price point, I wouldn’t expect to do that much. And if it starts leaking are they going to claim it was my issue?

I have AF fenders & hood on my Bronco.
-The body shop I worked with was critical ahead of seeing them
-they were impressed with the product.

I like the AF concept with less overhead panels. I've been patiently waiting as I go through two winters in Vermont with a soft top, I am just about done and jumping ship to an Anderson top. Why?
-comes with all the parts attached to the top, assembled by the Anderson. I don't need an erector set. I did expect to bolt the two side panels & rear panel to the top, but I did not expect to be taking the time to line up seals, install levers & alignment pins, etc.
-finalizing with an Anderson dealer and will have the confidence that my third winter with the vehicle will have a hard top!

I like the sound deadener in the anderson. I get that for $1500, it's a lot more, but I think overall it's a nicer fit / finish.. to be honest, I don't know a lot about the TOR and I guess I need to dive into the forums & videos, then place my bet..

There's a handful of folks on here who have received their TOR hard top and have posted reviews about them. Albeit early days, this post might be helpful.

"Assembled in the US!*"

*Only applies if the customer lives in the US, since the customer must literally build the entire hard top
Unless you live in Canada. Then it would be "Assembled in Canada", since the buyer does all the assembly...

Have your kid assemble it, and then you can claim the hardtop was assembled by child labor. :)
