Rear only for sure IMO. There's not much room between the tire and the UCA/Knuckle up front...good chance to cause some damage.

What about lower profile chains or cables? We are on top of a mountain and get snow and ice pretty regularly. Both the fullsize Bronco and our Bronco Sport have done great through winter without chains "but" just want to be ready for the unexpected.
Found these that I think would help in Ice.

From past experience running chains they all look nice in the pictures but in real life they are a bitch to get tight to eliminate slop. Take a look at the distance between the inside of you front tire and the knuckle where the UCA connects...there's not a whole lot of room. If a chain starts getting sloppy it's going to get snagged.

I guess it’s your Bronco - can probably find something that works up front. But the odds of it snagging something is pretty high up there. Nothing better than it snagging and then dragging your brake line out.

Lots of room in the rear though and don’t have to worry about the wheel turning for steering. Most of snow driving is just in keeping moving and rear chains do that great. It’s not like the Bronco is a FWD and you have to go up front.

Since you are a "just in case" situation, definitely rears, why push it. I have yet to need chains on the Bronco but always carry a set and would put them on the rear. When heading into a known winter or extreme mud situation I will throw in another set just in case. If run on the front I would recommend a light (read low profile) chain or cable and check tightness frequently. I have run 4 chains on many rigs, but never IFS (except TTB which doesn't really count as IFS). I worry about how tender the font end of the Bronco is, CVs, Diff, CAs and Ball Joints so I'll restrict to the rear unless there is an extreme need. If you can't easily pass your fingers between the upper ball joint and tire don't try it.
