I read this thread with amusement, exciting at first - now not so much. I doubt there is patent app pending. But I totally understand that 4x4 does not want anyone ripping off his designs (and I do not believe the OP was). The OP appears to have been just trying to help out the community, like so many others on here. A bit of an over reaction by 4x4. He probably lost more sales from the reaction that if the design was posted. But like I said, I understand being protective of the IP.

As long as it's not a copy of ours, you're good. Our design is patent pending so it can't resemble our design otherwise I hate to say it, you'll get sued. Sooo yeah as long as it's not a copy of ours you're good to go.
And when he puts his design on thingiverse so I can 3d print a copy, you planning on suing the whole internet?

Am I in the wrong here guys? I'm open to criticism. That was the point of the post, I wanted Adam's opinion as well as the communities. We know what his thoughts are at this point, but I truly want to know what others think, that was the point and is why I didn't start off by posting the drawings. This was all well intentioned.
You are 1000% not in the wrong. you figured out a solution to a problem, offered to help others with the same problem, and offered to share (Note: not sell) your design to help them out.

What you have done is what's called "Clean-Room Reverse Engineering'. It's a process that was developed by PC makers to develop a functional BIOS for IBM pc's, to reduce their stranglehold on the PC market in the 80's. I'm sure that vendor knows this, right? He can't possibly not know how clean room reverse engineering works, right?

At any rate, I'm sure said unnamed vendor will probably try to file something in district court in Maryland, since a ruling change made it so that dickhead "IP holders" could no longer file fraudulent patent lawsuits in the federal district in East Texas. I'm sure he knows that too.

...Right?

Or maybe he can stop shouting into a hurricane thinking he's got something worth hearing.

Kinda reminds me of the way Mattie Ross pulled Lawyer Daggett like a six gun.

Hey Hotdog,

That's exactly what I did. I was aware of his design but I didn't copy it. I dismantled the computer thingy it mounts to and pushed the studs on it through cardboard. I used that to generate a flat plane around it then scratched the outline with a scribe. I then cut that out of the cardboard, and applied the template that is included with the ARB for the mounting holes. I made a bracket whose geometry was obvious to the eye. Anyone with a plasma cutter or grinder can make this. I spent about 45 minutes from concept to completion. This thing isn't a moon landing folks.

After this thread I won't be buying anything from them.

I have been threatened to be sued, this is a rough estimate, about 75 times. I was only named in an actual lawsuit 3 times and was cleared in all of them.

Such a dick move to try to intimidate. Anyone can sue anyone for anything. Doesn't mean you will win. Pulling the attorney card is weak.

I have multiple screenshots and records (from multiple people) of this guy’s intimidation, outburst, and threats. How he’s still in business is beyond me….

I'll take that.

I always aim to meet on the level and part upon the square. I didn't think square dealings would result from a backroom conversation; so I applied light. It seemed to have kept a narrative from being spun.

But again, well received. This is the only forum I'm on, so my etiquette is probably out of fashion.

Nah… the private message was being used to try and intimidate him. It needed to be shared.
