Oh man, that Storch

I'm a sucker for the oddball warbirds.

Fun fact, the final aerial engagement of the western front in WWII was between an L-4 Grasshopper and a Storch, with the American pilot and observer bringing it down firing out the door with their 1911s. They landed hits on the windshield, fuel tanks and right wing and the Storch put a wing into the dirt attempting to maneuver away down low and crashed. They landed nearby and captured the German aircrew.

We had one put on a STOL show for Wings over Houston this year

Finally stopped kicking the can down the road and knocked out my CPL checkride last week! Going to try and dive into the CFI as quickly as I can while its all relatively fresh.

Things I will never do:
1) get a pilot's license
2) buy a $100 hamburger

Mostly for the same reason, I can't afford it :)
Believe me, most of us who do it can’t afford it either.

Couple cool pics from the years. Glad to see so many others have good taste of cars and expensive hobbies.
Not cool man. You don’t post pictures of a beaver and run.
If I won the lottery that would be my first purchase. Planning to get some beaver time in this summer while on vacation in Florida.

Unfortunately that wasn’t a purchase. Just a rental to get a forgotten DJI out to the boat. A friend paid for it. One of the funnier moments in life when you rent a beaver to get a drone out to your boat. I’ve got a rad video of it landing with us chasing it in the tender.

Do you know how to identify a pilot in a room full of people?

You don’t have to, he (or she) will tell you!
Sorry, that’s the best I can do to contribute to this thread!

Rental C172. I was planning to buy something until Covid hit. Aircraft prices have gone crazy the past year. I’ve thought about building a Velocity XLRG.

I toyed with buying for several years. Every time I get close, one of the club planes needs major work and it makes me glad I rent. You would hope your own plane is better taken care of than a rental, but you never know. Ownership gets pretty expensive with insurance, maintenance, hanger fee, etc. thrown in on top of the cost of the plane. My club currently has 2 super cubs and 4 182s I can fly, so I think I'm content to keep renting for now.

Definitely this. I may build an RV-something when I retire and have free time on my hands, but until then as long as there are clubs at Hooks, its really not worth it unless I'm cracking the 100 hr/yr mark.
