New Bronco Overland Concept Underscores Ford’s Off-Road Brand Accessories Game at Largest Bronco Enthusiast Gathering

TOWNSEND, Tenn., Oct. 7, 2020 – In honor of the largest North American gathering of classic Ford Broncos, Ford revealed a Bronco Overland concept to kick off this year’s Bronco Super Celebration East in Townsend, Tenn.

Based on the all-new Bronco four-door model, the concept will be on display at the annual off-road event alongside the all-new Bronco two-door and Bronco Sport 4x4 models to give fans a chance to see the only domestic all-4x4 family of off-road SUVs in the metal.

With personalization and factory-backed accessories essential to Ford’s all-new outdoor brand, the Bronco Overland concept showcases how the all-new Bronco two-door, four-door and Sport models are designed to help redefine the next generation of off-road vehicles.

Based on a 2021 Bronco four-door SUV Badlands™ series painted in Area 51 color scheme, the concept is fully equipped inside and out to take adventurers farther into the wild. It features the High-Performance Off-road Stability Suspension (H.O.S.S.) System with Bilstein® position-sensitive dampers, 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine with class-exclusive 7-speed manual transmission, with 17-inch Fifteen52™ Turbomatic heavy-duty wheels in asphalt black and 35-inch BFGoodrich® LT315/70R-17 mud-terrain KM3 tires for better off-road traction.

Up front, the Bronco Overlander concept features a Ford Performance by WARN® winch mounted to a Ford Performance modular steel bumper to help adventurers negotiate tough, rocky terrain. A heavy-duty two-person tent from Yakima™ and a factory roof rack are mounted to the roof rails with a 1x40 RIGID™ rack-mounted light bar and six additional RIGID POD lights in a 360 configuration for improved lighting all around. A tall CB antenna is mounted to the rear bumper.

The rear is setup to be the center of basecamp and includes an ARB refrigerator, cooking kit and stove mounted to a cargo management system. The refrigerator has a slide-out tray for easy access, while a tailgate table and chairs complete the campsite. The rear quarter window glass has rigid panels with MOLLE grids mounted inside for additional rear cargo area storage.

For some reason, I was thinking the MOLLE grid on the back of the seats was standard...
Edit: I see what you're talking about with the sides of the cargo area though, and agree that's probably part of that storage option.

Okay, please enlighten me (I realize I am "new" I have posted to Bronco Nation, but that site has barely any traffic so I am now here).

Why not just carry a tent in a duffel bag (like what I do) and set it up? Takes up way less space, frees up your roof rack for bikes/kayaks and other things? I mean that ground is flat and ripe for a tent. Maybe I could see a rooftop tent for super rocky areas, but I would imagine most places can fit a tent.

Don't get me wrong, I am looking at a Badlands or black diamond, but would prefer to have a higher tow capacity and take a small travel trailer than get out of a rooftop tent. I would trip in the night having to take a leak!

I think the idea is that overlanding is more than just camping. It is about traveling the trails and camping somewhere different almost every night. So the convenience of just unfolding/folding a rooftop tent makes camp setup/breakdown extremely efficient.

Sure if you are going to go camp somewhere for the weekend or week. Taking a little extra time to setup a traditional tent isn't a big deal. But if you are setting up camp in 6 different spots over the week, it makes a difference. Also I think a lot of the rooftop tents allow for keeping a mattress and blankets, etc inside when you fold it up, so a few extra comforts.

That being said it is a trade off for roof space if you are needing it for other things. But there are other configurations as well, hitch mount bike carriers, overland trailers, etc...

Take this with a grain of salt because I don't have one yet, but have been addicted to overlanding youtube videos recently.

Molle panels on the back of the front seats is standard on the Badlands and BD, yes. I was referring to behind the back seats. There's a Rotopax mounted there... (and on the side) somehow.

That's another of the mistakes in the article - along with the position of the CB antenna. One of the pics in this thread shows that the inside of those black out windows doesn't have anything attached to it, no MOLLE grid. I believe what they were trying to get at is the MOLLE grid that's part of the fold down shelf attached to the inside of the tailgate.

Ahh, I see. The MOLLE grid would be cool on there though
