Neither of these engines had a catch can and they both went 500K miles before being taken apart. Save your money for something useful, like lights.
This was a test Valvoline did with two Ford Explorers, each with the 2.3L engine. They put each on a chassis dyno and ran them 500K miles. One with conventional oil, one with synthetic. They changed the oil every 10K miles.
