First off, what do you think Bronco would be worth used, 6 months after purchase?
I have 2 reservations 5 days apart. The 1st is currently #3 out of 24 allocations, the 2nd is pushed to MY22.
Anything I buy on A-plan I have to keep for 6 months before I can sell it.
I'm on the fence about waiting to see MY22 options, vs getting one now.
6 months after purchase, what's the chance of breaking even on a first build if I wanted to proceed with a second, MY22 build with say, the mansquatch, white modular roof, byod rail, green paint, v-8, Filson interior, and 2nd special edition (heritage edition)? You know, every option we have all been waiting and bitching and moaning about!!
But seriously, think I could break even 6 - 12 months after purchase? Depending on build?
I have two early reservations 3 days apart & my wife has an October Granger res. I may order two different specs, drive the first delivery, buy the second delivery then decide which I'll keep. I feel confident I can recoup most of my purchase price plus tax on the one I don't keep. OF course, if the second takes to long to deliver, it may reduce the value of the first. I'm not too worried because these will be super easy to sell for a while. Gotta get a spec that will be desireable.

The October res I may do a 2Dr man squatch white top. If that could be converted to a Warthog, I'll go that route.

Flipping it immediately after purchase if you’re lucky enough to land one this summer could probably make you some cash. Flipping a 2022 6 months after delivery, not a chance.
Agree.
If using your A-Plan is why you have to hold it 6 months, the only way you'll break even or make money is to NOT use the A-Plan and find someone dying to get a Bronco who didn't realize they would have had to reserve one in mid-July. I know 2 people who did that with Teslas. But the deal is for a "brand new" used vehicle, not 6-months old. And I wouldn't risk it unless you have a buyer already lined up.

I had tried to convey in my OP, albeit unsuccessfully apparently, by saying that "IF" I were to order a second one. It would never be my intention to use my situation to just flip one for a profit. That's why I inquired as to the possibility of breaking even, instead of talking about rolling a profit into the second build. Yes I agree, THAT would be D-Baggery.

The last new vehicle I bought was a '05 F150 FX4 which is being passed of to my 17 yo son. I buy things and I keep them, usually longer than is economically feasible based on repair and maintenance costs. So please, do not misunderstand my intentions.

Hey, I AM giving up a FE, so I am making some of my fellow Bronco fans' rig's a little rarer, now you'll have one out of 6999!
What is wrong with someone taking the risk of paying for a vehicle plus tax and selling it for a profit? I agree with an earlier poster that people may be willing to pay $10k extra to get a Bronco when they are unable to buy one at a dealer. Some may pay +$15k? I'd be happy to pocket the profit on my first res and roll it into the purchase of my second res. I see NOTHING wrong with this.

Your best bet to make money is to take delivery of the second Bronco, put it into a environmentally controlled storage unit for 25 years, then look to sell it.

Short of that, be courteous to all your fellow Bronco guys and gals and release the 2nd reservation so others can enjoy a Bronco. Remember; what goes around comes around.
I too had two reservations and have released the second from 7/16.
Just my two cents.
Better investment is to invest the money. Assuming a 45000 bronco, 6% annual return rate for 25 years - you would have $227,885.24 in the bank.

My opinion is that "Yes, absolutely legal and more power to you" from a financial standpoint. But from a, maybe socialistic standpoint, "Don't be greedy. Allow others the chance at a cool rig".

Be hilarious if Ford pulls a Ford GT and sticks in a disclaimer in the contract that you can’t resell a Bronco until you’ve owned it for X amount of time. ?

Sounds more Christian than socialist. Do unto others... Love thy neighbor...

If anything history shows manuals are worth more. Especially in the sports car world.
Is Bronco a sports car now ?. Not to mention most that want a manual also want sas. which can not be ordered til 2022. Just seems like a lot of work for small profit.

It’s unlikely you’ll come out ahead $-wise if you did this, but if you’re really considering going through all this trouble, I’m guessing that doesn’t really matter. What is 6 months more time with a Bronco worth to you? For most it wouldn’t be worth all that much, but for you it sounds like it may be.

I don’t think you’re evil for considering this, but I do think that you’re trying to convince yourself it’s a “smart financial decision” when it’s definitely not, but it doesn’t need to be.

Nope but manual will still be worth more in the end. Sorry.

OP, I absolutely understand your thought process. I think it mirrors a lot of ours. Buying a new to market vehicle, sight unseen, no test drive and knowing more options are on the horizon... the prudent choice for all is to wait. For myself, I look at the rumors and what I can order for ‘21 and think I will be happy with a ‘21. You’re in a situation where you can hedge your bet by getting a ‘21 with little risk if you decide the ‘22 appeals to you more.

I say go for it. You may be perfectly happy with the ‘21 and cancel the second order. If not, that ‘21 will be rare enough that you will likely only be out a couple grand. Unless the Bronco turns out to be a giant POS and we’re all jumping ship. Let’s hope that is not the case!

I agree 100% actually.

If I was walking down an aisle at Best Buy with a PS5 under both arms...

Scenario A: There's a kid walks by me that is just dying to get one, I'd let the kid walk away with it and rejoice I had just made his day
Scenario B: I get all the way through check out and out to the car, I call my buddies up and see if anyone wanted one; cost plus a bottle of Eagle Rare
Scenario C: None of my buddies wanted a PS5, I sell it for a sweet profit, and buy several bottles of Eagle Rare

I'd sleep well that night in any of the 3
