We don't need batteries for the ICE cars to perform and have most features as EV's do.

All the cool gizmos in a tesla can work in a gas car too
Spoken from someone whos never gotten in a ride in one.

Quoting an extended family members husband after getting a ride in my brother in laws Tesla 3 dual motor-man this thing takes off like a ride at Great Adventure. Electric motors are impossible to beat in Ft/lb vs an ICE. They make 100% of their torque at 1 RPM.

If the roof can hold 130lbs that's not much range

Unless there is a battery tech breakthrough, otherwise that will be heavy as f.

1. It makes the vehicle's center of gravity worse. Top heavy, more rollover risk.
2. Not easily removeable. Gonna need heavy duty tools.
3. Makes the process removing the top more tedious because of #2.

I see forest fires starting when someone rolls it and punctures the battery!

I would drive an EV Bronco. I said I never would drive an EV period. Until I drove a buddies Tesla the other day. Man I was blown away by it, I know an EV Bronco won't be the same but I am here for it.
Some people just don’t get EVs until they experience it. Then others are just traditionalists and want to hear an engine that they perceive as sounding cool. But once the range went up and charging stations popped up/easy access to home charging, there isn’t too much to hate on.

What happens in a rollover event?

Nothing left but a beautiful front plate mount with your handle on it :ROFLMAO:

On a slightly more serious note regarding the instant torque of the electric motors - Haven't there been issues regarding exactly this in a low traction situation wherein you end up with too much wheel spin because there's no 'roll on' of the power? I ...feel?...like I've seen some Rivian stuff along those lines. I've seen electric-through-transmission powered vehicles starting to pop up on youtube, maybe something like that would be a good application for an off-road vehicle?

I wonder how this is going to work-batteries are heavy! A older gen Escape battery weighs 160lbs alone.
Exactly. Keel on top - what could go wrong?

meh, kind of defeats the point of having a convertible/removable top. might as well just by a 4Runner.
I wish they would. @Ford why not bring the everest to the states???

Hope the patent office laughs in Ford's face.

Plug in battery extension is not "novel".
Roof mount is not "non-obvious" - dumb, but not non-obvious.

Design fails the basic requirements for a patent.

I see it as a rooftop storage type of accessory. Just like you can put a storage box up top for long trips you do the same with the batteries.

If you could add 50-100 miles of range and keep the weight low enough it seems worth building and then I can see a ton of people buying it.

I have a Rivian and love the ev because I never go to the gas station but I also don’t take it on many long road trips and take the Bronco.

I would buy this for the rivian if it made it more feasible for road tripping convenience.
