Anyone have a rough idea of how much longer an order will take if choosing a hard top over a soft top?

The question cannot be answered as it is posed. That all depends on the specific build that you are trying to have picked up.

But in general you will get a build faster with a soft top, but hardtops are being produced now.

In the end - it's all a guessing game with Ford.

Oh the Paradox that is Time....

To some it is a Luxury of Joy , to others it's a never ending Agony

Place your order and choose wisely your own precept of Time...

@710-oil-614 is correct... its a bit of a guessing game and it depends largely on what the rest of the build is.

BUT... safe to say that the difference between hard top and soft top wait times--generally speaking--is measured in months and not weeks.

My MIC top OBX 2.7 rear locker, High, hitch, onyx leather 4dr was built July 21 and delivered October 21 after a stint in Purgatory. At the time, we felt Ford was favoring some Non-Sas, non-Badlands vehicles, so my number was pulled early with OBX. I would have waited months more, I have no interest in a OEM ragtop that should be a seasonal accessory, not a primary roof . . . Especially if you live in the North, with snow. Someone will come up with an aftermarket hardtop in a year or two if you do softie. I'm quite happy with my choice, but I believe theres a certain amount of luck involved, and whatever models Ford wants to push out based on supply and marketing.

Get what you really want. Not what will get it faster. Buyers remorse sucks.
I agree that you should get what you want...but I haven't seen anyone who switched come on here and say they regretted it. I think I dodged a bullet by switching, because I like the soft top so much due to the ease of opening. For others who don't....they can always grab a hard top later.
To the OP...it may may move you WAY up the line, but it depends on your dealer's allocation situation and build mix.

I never even thought about a soft top until I test drove a Bronco with one. My current Gladiator and past Wrangler are/were hard tops. And I swore I would only own a hard top. But after flipping that top back in seconds I was sold. No panels to remove. No getting caught without a top in a pop up storm. Open air on the fly can't be beat.

And from the looks of current allocations, especially at my dealer, I could order a base soft top with no options and probably not see mine before the 2024 MY. At this point it's best to order exactly what you want without regard to bumping up on the list. Pretty much everyone is in for a long wait.

I just changed my order yesterday with my dealer. He said my original order (Badlands, 4D, Sas, tow, Lux, MIC) would arrive sometime in October. My updated order just dropped the tow and Hardtop. He told me another customer changed their order to drop tow/Ht and was scheduled approx 4 weeks after changing the order. I can live without a hardtop, and if I absolutely can't I wouldn't mind purchasing one later on, whether its OEM or aftermarket.
