Has anyone done any cost per mile comparisons between regular and premium fuel?

Curious if there is a MPG increase with premium that would offset the higher price of premium. Yeah, it's hard to swallow the higher price at the pump, but if it increases the mileage, it might be worth it.

Using premium fuel does not increase fuel efficiency.
not normally, but these engines adjust their tuning to adapt to the octane of the fuel. It's supposed to make more power, but that doesn't mean more MPG

You (and everyone) should be looking at fuel rewards programs through the grocery store you frequent. Not sure if you guys have Kroger in WA, but believe you have Fred Meyer and QFC - I believe those are Kroger affiliates and have the same program. I filled up mine and my wife's car a few days ago - 35 gallons of premium for $2.88 a gallon. My discount was $1.55 per. It's a no-brainer.

My anecdotal evidence has been the opposite, which makes no sense. I ran through a bunch of tanks of premium and averaged around 18.4 mpg. Then a tank of no-ethanol premium and I got slightly worse. Then a few tanks of standard unleaded and I averaged just over 20 mpg.

I didn't control for variances like the type of driving or summer/winter blend, so I'm not making any sort of definitive statement.

Just don't do maths and join a costco. Routinely 40 cents per gallon cheaper at $60 per year and saving $7ish per fueling you will overall save money. Plus samples and bulk stuff you otherwise wouldn't buy!

Solved the back half of that by buying a 2-door.
Bulk Costco packaging won't fit.
