Has anyone tried to instal a 10 or 12” sub in place of factory fakes?

I am asking if anyone has removed the fake amp and speaker. Removed the whole assembly and tried to make a mount for a 10 or 12” sub and amp?

No, but I've thought about it.

The factory sizes are 170mm (6.75”) or 200mm (8”) depending on if you have the B&O package or not.

Should be possible to fit a 10” sub in a custom enclosure. But 12-inch? Eh… don’t know if there is enough room behind that panel for a properly sized enclosure to be honest.

Ok just asking. I was talking to some different places and I just don’t want to put a box in the back. So was wondering if anyone had tried it yet.

I have an 8 that sounds better than most but I know a person working on a 10 inch box 3D printed for a 10 that will fit something super shallow. Think a pickup truck type sub.

Once it’s on the market people will definitely know.

I will say this for sure, that spot is AWFUL for trying to get big sound to the driver seat. My setup is loud and clear as heck but I lose about 40% because of how and where it’s firing to. If you want to have a real sound the tailgate mounted or a custom box is the way to go.

JL Audio makes a stealthbox that mounts there with a 10. Sounds pretty good too.

My installer bolted a JL 12" truck box to my back door, and it sounds great. Model of the enclosure/sub is CS112LG-TW3. Fits on the back door like the MTI box does, although admittedly it's not quite a clean looking at the MTI box. Puts out plenty of bass, and I thought it was a pretty good solution for keeping a sub box out of most of the rear cargo area. It's being powered by a JL XD600/1.

If someone comes out with a tuned box and speaker set for an 8" or 10" that replaces the OEM I'd be interested. 12" - man that would be tight, you could shoehorn the speaker in but I don't think there'd be any room left over for the enclosure - but I'd love to be amazed.
