When you remove the stock intercooler you are left with this gaping hole that allows all of the air going through your radiator fans to bypass the radiator. image is from below, looking upwards. This means your radiator fans are effectivly doing nothing and will cause overheating.

Below is an image of the bolted in plastic blocker that I made to force the air to be pulled through the radiator. (Red Piece looking in the front grill opening)

Holy smoke you are right. I’ll do that this weekend.

I think the Fox 2.5, Ride or King's shocks. all of which have remote reservoirs, would be cheaper and every bit as good, especially if you spring for their tuning mods. Besides the winch and front bumper what else are you running that has put on that much more weight?
Grear suggestions here, after research I'm going for the Fox 2.5s in the rear, see how that goes. Not up to the premium called for by Accutune etc. (yet), and it's an easy install for me. It's hard to figure on where to but, these shock web sites are all over the place on price and "fitment". Any suggestions?

I would go for Accutune and their upgrade on the rear shock, as most of the cost of the upgrade is replacing the spring from a 185# to a 250# spring. It can be purchased separately, but as much as your truck weighs, you might need something heavier. The 185# will not be heavy enough for your truck.

I was about to say something smart aleck like, “I thought people in Vermont were tight, but…….“.
On the other hand, I drove past a scrap yard on my way to the CAT scales today and wish I thought of this first!
Cheap Yankee pro tips lol

Great idea, thanks. Meantime headed in to have some rear pinion bearing noise looked into…..

Feel like the intercooler gets no air with the pic of that bumper. But I guess if it’s high oil temp, then that’s more radiator related? I’ve had overheating while datalogging but that was in the engine

Sorry, I need to take a better pic. There is air to the intercooler, and at 85 mph into a 30-40 mph head wind - this is West Texas we are talking about - there is plenty of air In and low back pressure underneath to release it. My inclination anyway is the radiator, as you mentioned and and @GreyZ did, particularly that the incoming air is finding a path of less resistance around It.

The truck is at the dealer through the weekend, so I will dig into that process next week. Easy fix, plus throw my cooler thermostat* in, and see how it goes.

* comments were made re cooler thermostat, and I want to clarify that the weight of this thing notwithstanding, if I can head off those temp spike at load by starting at a lower temp, it’s a win. And for everyday hard driving, I’m curious to see if this boosted engine performs even better, while watching what MPG does and noting that low speed power may be affected. As I have said, these TT Ecoboost engines are not like anything I’m familiar with and have surpising reactions to mods, some good some bad.

This is just another thought due to your weight issue, but with larger and likely higher weight ratings on your tires, have you experimented with air pressure to see if some of the high loads issues could be attributed to rolling resistance?

Good question - loaded, I run 45 psi all around on the highway and it’s plenty. Chalk tested it to be sure.

But have you checked it fully loaded with passengers and gear? Another 1,000 lbs of weight, or more, would likely make a difference to the contact patch. Just spitballing.

You are spot on - I checked all loaded before the trip. Aired back up to that level on the way home.

Why not ask Buckle Up Buttercup?
She had a bad gas milage issue which was solved with the removal of her aftermarket bumper, which closed off the bumper opening just like your bumper?

Just curious how does yours sound and does it make a noise at various speeds? I’m hearing a high pitch roaring noise at 45 up to 55mph and then it goes away. I’m thinking my rear pinion bearing is toast.

Have you blocked the lower radiator shroud as suggested by @GreyZ ?

I swapped my intercooler as well but did block that part with a piece of polycarbonate as it didnt seem right to leave it open…

In oem config air still bypass the radiator but less so than fully open with aftermarket IC.
