Redline warning flashing.

So I got to (or close to) redline for the first time yesterday in Sport Mode pulling away from a stoplight.


I wouldn’t have noticed if not for that side of the digital tach flashing red. Surprised me and I backed off quickly.

Some questions:

1. How important is it in the 2.7 to avoid this? I’m at 3,200 miles and did the first oil change at 1,600.

2. Anybody pushed redline routinely in a 2.7 and have you had any issues as a result? I don’t plan to make a habit of it in any case.

3. Is this flashing a carry over from the previous pre-25 gauges? Curious if all Bronco clusters do this.

4. Also wondering what it look like if I was on another screen option besides the Gauges one (Calm mode, etc.)

It may or may not have had something to do with a Tesla that was annoying me as I was trying to change lanes.

I haven’t ever seen that in my Broncos so I am awfully proud of you for getting after it like that! I wouldn’t really worry too much, I am sure there is a rev limiter that would prevent further RPMs once you are in the real danger zone. Bronco on!

This is the ultimate answer. The electronics won't let you over-rev modern engines even if you want to.

I have no idea what the true redline is, or how to tell on the joke-of-a-tachometer that is in the Bronco. But I have a motorcycle that has a 10,000 rpm redline and it starts blinking red around 8000. Plenty of warning to shift before hitting the real redline. The Bronco could be like that.

Didn't redline but did find out the 2.7 is governed at 102 on the way home from a recent road trip.

Not sure how the 2.7 is but 2.3 manual here and it'll either back off fuel or electronically do whatever if you over rev, no harm, no foul.

It’s just an animation from the IPC. Nothing to worry about. Isn’t going to harm anything.

That example was in sport mode (so the color is orange instead of blue), but it’s the same basic thing. Just has a red warning or notice when you come close to the redline.

I noticed the “tach” doing that red flashing thing coming down a mountain in manual mode last week…surprised me…never seen that before…guess i don’t run it hard enough…

In my 2.3 manual I routinely go over 5K. I do not sit and bash the throttle against the rev limiter though. Sitting at 55k miles right now.

As far as early mileage - not too concerning where you are sitting at.

That's probably the easiest mod on your Bronco. Drive yours to the dealer, let them "appraise" it (don't forget to grab your knees!), open your check book, and write a check for the difference in price on the new '25 model. Done, quick, done easy.

On another note the 3.0 twin turbo EcoBoost has virtually all of that identical parts inside and it can rev an additional 1500 RPMs with no damage so using that basis I would say the 2.7 is plenty strong at my measly 5400 RPMs.. and could likely handle much higher RPMs.

No harm as long as the oil temps are fully warmed up.
