I've been wrenching on my own vehicles forever and I rarely trust others to do the same quality of work I can do myself. So for my 1st oil change @ 4600 mi. I figured I would change the oil/filter myself. I have access to a 2-post lift so no big deal right?
The procedure itself is pretty straight forward. Warm up the 2.7, remove oil fill cap, remove oil filter, open drain plug (slowly). I did the first three step with my BL on the ground but before I lifted it up I realized that the lifting pads were not where they needed to be. Again, no big deal, I can just put it in neutral and push it forward a few inches. I know that to shift the trans into N the ignition (not the motor) must be on. Well it is rare for me to push the Go button w/o my foot on the brake and of course my motor fired right up.
Remember the part about removing the oil filter?

That's something i might do, look around to make sure no one was watching and move on. Probably wouldn't mention it on the interwebs.

Fun times. Accidentally did something similar once with my old Datsun, gotta love the lingering smell of oil splatter around the engine bay

I’m not afraid to admit when I screw up. Hopefully someone will learn something from my mistake. I did!
