seems like you're talking about the matt's offroad recovery video where the guy says he broke the locker and it messed with the computer. I'd bet there is much more to the story as it looked like that guy had portals and a bunch of other mods that likely affected that failure.
I doubt portals had any effect on the computer failure....
Yeah, the portals had nothing to do with it. Nor did the broken D60 axle. When we broke our rear axle and cut the stub off after the tone ring I was wondering how the computer would be affected by having the rear locker on but seeing different tire rpm. It didn’t care, turns out. But it very very much has issues if there is a difference in speed vs what it calculates should be happening between the front and back.

Sounds like transmission protection. I know that if your wheel speed sensors are off enough on a manual transmission bronco you trigger the clutch slip fault. @Bmadda help another portal bronco with the clutch slip fault.

I don't think it would mater with my part time case, however a 4 auto case would get smoked! I think trailmater had a video recently with a jeep that smoked its 4 auto transfer case trying the same thing.
'smoked' mechanically (e.g. clutches burning out)? Assuming the rear really was disconnected, I wonder what would cause this on the bronco... computer slipping the clutch pack too much maybe....

Interesting, I will have to remember this.

Front output is clutch driven on the 4 auto case. @BigMeatsBronco would be the one to argue different but I will state it as fact till proven wrong.
I never did tear apart the transfer case to swap out clutches either. But I’m on the side of clutch only-no physical lock

I dug deep into the Ford service manual, and it appears to be cluch locked...which is just fine it WONT slip. unless you break the ball ramp

I do plan on swapping in the Everest transfer case in 6 months or so when the super duty Ranger Parts become available online, as I need the all-wheel drive controller module that includes a front Locker which ranger super duty will have available.

This is my understanding. I'm not convinced the computer slips/modulates it that much even in 4A with significant steering angle (opinion based on my observation of the "power distribution gauge" {I know, computer graphic probably not connected with reality ;) } and my seat of the pants feel on and offroad). In any case in 4H/4L it is definitely locked.

That’s why I brought up the question. Is it possible or there is more to it as the video was for entertainment only.

Manual transmission wouldn’t have anything to do with 4Auto clutches — that clutch slip fault would be the trans clutch

I totally agree, far more likely!

Maybe I wasn't clear but the clutch slip fault occurs when you don't reprogram the bronco for portals and tires and the computer freaks out on a manual bronco.

Maybe I got confused by your post tagging BMB later on then, sorry.

… topic is lockers BUT

The recovery guys didn’t like the aftermarket bumper (brand that is supposed to be a good one) or winch (brand ?)…
Set the tow rope to the A-Frames

Raises questions about having good connections between frame and bumper…

Getting towed out will happen more often than losing a locker
Because they've been burned in the past.

Yes… I saw that video, few aftermarket bumpers companies do what ford did in testing and reinforcement.

That one might be well built but six clip-on nuts.. holding it on the bronco is NUTS And no extra reinforcements is nuts too

The stock frame horns bend so much with the slightest force. Reinforcement is definitely needed.
