I was idling in 3rd(20mph-ish) coming into the neighborhood, I try to go slow for the kids in the area. The posted 25mph is too fast through a residential area.
I meant the fact you're getting 20mpg, while I'm getting 16. I don't drive like an idiot and I could never eke 20mpg out of this thing.

I was hoping the base model got the advertised 20-22 mpg!
It does better on the open hiway at sane speeds. 21/22 every time.
Sometimes my morning commute , "the pack" is trying to qualify for the Indy 500. Speeds well over 80, which KILLS MPG. I run with the pack, trying to stay at 70mph on those days makes you a liability.

I held around 19.6 avg for awhile, a few tanks at 16-ish killed that.

Webspoke: how much acceleration loss do you think you had by going the larger/heavier tires and wheels?

I have a Mansquatch on order. I've been concerned about power loss vs lighter tires and wheels in a stock (non squatch) rig, but didn't want to give up the looks or features of the Squatch. I think I might go with the General ATX 275/70R18 which is a 33.2" tire in a C load range. It only weighs 46lbs. If I can find some 18" wheels in the 25-30lb range, I should be able to shave off 10-15lbs per corner on my Bronco while still maintaining a decent look. Let me know your thoughts (please).
You shouldn't notice any power loss with the Sas, since they come with 4.7s to compensate for the larger heavier tires. I have 60lb 34's on my Non-Sas BD with 4.47s and it still feels quite sporty with that 7sp. I don't even run premium either.

There's lots of conflicting posts on mpg and its because it lacks the details that affect fuel economy so it would be helpful if we post this info:

Example:
A - 2.3L with Manual transmission = Yes
B - Average MPG = 21
C - fuel = premium
D - Final drive ratio = 4.46
E - tire size & spec's = 255/75R17 Bridgestone Dueler A/T, tire rack says these are 32" diameter and each tire weighs 35 lbs.
F - lift height = factory

Thanks in advance!
A - 2.3L with Manual transmission = Yes
B - Average MPG = 19
C - fuel = premium
D - Final drive ratio = 4.7
E - tire size & spec's = 37x12.50R17 BFGoodrich AT KO2
F - lift height = 3.5"

This is after recalibrating tire size in ForSCAN.

This is no joke for my commute, 80 in the left lane, 55-60 in the middle and 25-50 in the right (gets bogged down by traffic entering the highway since most people do not understand to accelerate to merge with traffic. My highway drive is on 65mph that steps down to 60mph. Can get really hard to sit behind the people going under the limit or jumping in front of you at 45 and the left lane is a tad too fast.

2-door Big Bend, stock factory

A - 2.3L with Manual transmission = Yes
B - Average MPG = 22
C - fuel = mixed, see below
D - Final drive ratio = 4.46
E - tire size & spec's = factory 255/75R17 Bridgestone Dueler A/T
F - lift height = factory
G - Drive Mode = normal

I think we need to consider engine break-in as a variable. I'm just over 2400 miles and my last trip spiked over 25 mpg. If this holds then the 2-door is easily 400 miles on a tank (highway).

I see a difference in 87 vs 93 octane fuel; around 1 or 2 mpg better with premium.

Thanks Hoss, it's good to see someone getting decent mpg and this reiterates my thoughts on keeping the big bend stock/factory.

This might be the way to go for best mpg!

Here's the screen shot; 400 mile tank easy.

Ford Bronco Manual trans 2.3L - MPG & tire size/spec ? 25m
I ordered the base model but will be using take-off wheels/tires from the big bend so your mpg is good news!

I just finished another long road trip. It verified the obvious, that with more weight carried (another 150 lb) plus faster average speed (+5 mph) results in worse mpg, about 5 to 6 mpg worse in highway driving. We're basically pushing a brick through the air so the drag part is significant.

On the same trip , I could average 25 mpg on slower local backroads at 55 mph, and then see mileage drop to 20 mpg at 75 mph.

Live and learn.

Thanks for the report.

Do you have the roof rack?
