Mesh or solid bimini top?

Has anybody tried modifying a 4 door Bimini to fit a 2 door? Thinking the width will be the same - just the rear roll bar will be closer. So anybody tried cutting or folding the 4 door top and mounting it on top of a 2 door?

I have a 2 door and had a gear shade mesh cover…. The flapping was so bad at anything over 50mph I ordered a solid canvas one made by a member here. I should have it installed soon and I’ll let you know if it’s any better. The gear shade was no good for me but I understand it’s well loved here.

What would be the benefit of that over one specifically designed for a 2-door?

I'm going with a Jtops one. Guess we will see if I get the flapping problem.

Mesh - I have the gear shade installed and leave it in all the time. Also a hat of some sort as I'm folicly challenged on top!

I literally just ordered the gear shade yesterday. After looking at pricing and how all the different tops mount, decided this one was the right one. I actually wanted a soft top version because I don't have any interest in the whole Allen key retrofit. This is just theoretical, but I would imagine you could just un-bungee the front part, fold it back on top of itself and then put the panels back on.

As for the flapping, their website doesn't show it, but the YouTube videos show that there's an added bungee right in the middle that seems like it would reduce the flapping....hope so.

Fyi, the discount code from the old thread still works. Got it to my door for $150

100% I live in SW Florida and it gets hot AF here real soon. It makes a huge difference in direct sunlight. A solid top would make a horrible flapping noise while driving

Solid does not make horrible noise... only crappy ones do.

Here is me going 68 MPH with mine, and having a regular volume conversation. No flap, no noise.... and i did NOT install all the bungee straps.

- no Bimini is protecting you from rain.
- mesh gives you sun protection and airflow for ventilation in the heat

Some protect from most rain. However anything mesh will allow water through. So canvas will protect.
