First it starts off with a winch. Then it's a "camera relocation mount". Next thing you know you'll find yourself on the floor of some strangers garage, covered in axle grease, screaming about portals and four links. Then you'll know what's up... lol

any reason why you could not just use a comealong instead of installing a winch? (with a tow strap, if you need extra length?) easy enough to throw in the back of the bronco when you are offroading, and will get you out of most basic situations.
My main reason is safety. Especially if you're by yourself.

Thank you all for all the help it is very much appreciated. The situation I encountered the other day was a huge mud puddle that was actually more like a small swamp across the trail I was on. If I had a winch I would have traversed it but because I did not I turn around. I don't think that a come along would have been appropriate but I could be wrong. But I can afford a basic winch setup like the rough country so I've decided to go with that. I will also purchase the LOD frame gussets. I appreciate the video and the willingness to spend time helping me. PS- I won't deny that I AM lusting for a winch to add to my bronc just because it seems like it will be really cool to have, in addition to possibly being practical at some point in time or times.

Another good option for frame reinforcement. I used the LoD ones myself but had to modify them to fit. These don’t have the ears mine had and that I cut off
I had to modify the LOD ones as well with a wheel cutter. So if you want to avoid anything more than bolt on, I would go with the ADD ones linked. I thought the LOD ones were supposed to be bolt on but it wouldn’t fit with the stock skid plate

Yeah I actually used the piece of each that I cut off by welding them back into the elbow as a gusset, one on each side. Probably totally unnecessary but took 5 minutes.

If you have a cutoff wheel and a can of rustoleum at least you’d save a few dollars by going LoD over ADD

This was going to be my next question. I will research the frame braces. I do not want to cut or drill, especially the frame.

And thanks again. It's great not having to go this alone. I'm old enough to remember when you were lucky to find a book or something like that to try to help you figure things out.

Yeah I was specifically talking about trimming a tab off of the LoD braces prior to installation or they won’t fit with the factory skid plate

Just keep in mind, a winch is a tool. Having one is one thing, knowing how to (safely) use it is just as important.

If you go wheeling by yourself, try to at least find some local wheelers or a local club that might be able to help you learn how to properly use it. There are a lot of powerful forces involved when winching and those forces can be lethal if not properly managed.

Do I have to remove the bumper to install the gussets? I don't have any options (stock black diamond) and I'm sure I can do it but I don't know if I have to.

Yes you do. It's pretty easy and doesn't weigh much. I normally support mine with a couple of milk crates and a cardboard box. Jackstand will work as well, but prone to falling off.

Hello everyone, my name is George and I am new to this forum. I have a completely stock 2021 Black diamond two-door 2.3 manual transmission. I was off the road exploring yesterday and I came to an area that concerned me. A chilling feeling came over me as I realized it wouldn't be good if I were to get stuck several miles from any roads or town. I realized that if I had a winch I could likely have continued. But as it were I turned around and went back home. So I checked out YouTube and saw a Warren Mount and winch combination that seem to be a bolt on proposition. I am asking for help and advice regarding buying a winch and mount that would be relatively easy to mount to my black diamond with the modular steel bumper and keeping it as much as is possible to a lightweight & simple/basic proposition. I am only concerned with a most basic winch setup. Thank you for your assistance, I am overwhelmed as I do searches. I am new to the four-wheel thing.

The most minimal winch setup??? Would be a front mounted receiver with a multi mount winch plate.............

You can use it in the back of the Bronc as well if you have a rear hitch mount and run some leads back there. 😁

One last thing in closing. ALWAYS remember to practice safe winching if not it could result in your death. Have a towel/old coat/hoodie/something over the winch cable. If it, or some other part, were to fail it will absorb the kinetic energy stored in the tight cable. If not dampened it can be a missile, and it will kill.
