I was airing up in Sedona this week and the airhose fitting connected to the ARB in the engine bay let go. The hose got soft and the compression fitting couldn't hold it under pressure and BOOM hiiiisss. The ARB gets hot, it's in a hot engine bay, phoenix and sedona are hot ambient temps...

Caveats and Info:
- I live in Phoenix... it's HOT (even in Sedona where this happened, was like 102º outside)
- Flexzilla hose with ColorConnex fittings plugged into the ARB single compressor quick disconnect
- 33" tires... I was down at ~18psi and bringing them up to 40-42. Blew after the final two tires were at pressure.

SO... I'm looking for options:
1. I could sell/tradein this single ARB compressor and get a double so it'd fill up 2x faster and be exposed to heat for less time. Expensive route.
2. I could find better connectors than those pictured? hard lines? braided? (pressure isn't the issue it's the heat so idk if braided do better?)
3. I find a commercial connector and hose whip to plug into the engine bay mounted ARB, long enough to connect to outside of the engine bay. Not sure what brands or stuff might work here... but planning on going to a commercial hose store and ask for ideas.

THOUGHTS? Anybody else have similar issues and find a good solution?
Also... going to carry some hose clamps from now on... juuuust in case.

(coincidence - a couple weeks ago i have a flexzilla water hose on the house... Similarly the compression fitting let go... I mean that's outside too so... Phoenix / Arizona heat destroys everything.. ugh)

i know there are other potential locatins to mount it... I don't want internal for the noise. Very regularly have wife and 3 year old in the truck and don't want that noise for 20min inside. or somewhere i'd need the tailgate open; again it's hot AF in phoenix / arizona area.

I had the same experience. Third time out, I was airing up and the flexilla hose let go. My setup is a ARB dual under the hood. I am in Tucson so my ambient is just 10 degrees cooler but that ARB location gets pretty hot (the turbo is just under it).

I added a pigtail that I hope is high temperature with a solid crimp. This runs over the compressor to the ARB air connection that I attached to a piece of scrap Aluminum and attached under a large screw at the front. You can see the setup in the picture. The red hose goes under the air inlet and up to the ARB air connection just left of the air filter box. I have yet to fully test this. I also have a piece of stick-on shiny heat shield material. I am thinking of adding a heat reflector between the ARB and the turbo charger.

I did add a spare air hose in the emergency kit. Worst case I can cool the compressor down (or wait a while) and then finish airing up.

Yea switching to the dual compressor won't help. I've blown out hoses with mine. Need to switch to something high temp/pressure.

I was thinking about going down to carquest and having a custom hose made. They can make hydraulic hoses on site.

right on thanks @N9WXU for that look. I like that you moved the quick-connect... height is an issue around there too.

I have a @4x4TruckLEDs.com mounting bracket so I'm off just to the left of the turbo by that computer box. Here's a photo of my setup:

Another option is move my quick disconnect as well and run a hardline or commerical hose to a forward location.....

I’ve never had an issue with mine - I have noticed the air is hot but that’s because of where the ARB is located it’s because it’s a small compressor putting out a lot of air for its size - so the compression makes air get hot - that’s the nature of compressed air … it gets hot

other compressors are larger therefore they don’t compress it as much and the air doesn’t get as hot

It's just the fittings get super hot with ambient+engine proximity+compressor... so the fitting plugged into the quick connector gets super hot... hose got squishy/soft... pushed it out of the compression sleeve.
I looked and Flexzilla hoses say they're rated up to 140º and w/o having probed anything I'm VERY certain these conditions have exceeded that tolerance.

Quick look at homedepot site and they have a Campbell Hausfeld blue PVC hose that says it's rated up to 250º F.... which is better but I'm looking for better options. I see PTFE (teflon) braided hoses are rated up to 450º so maybe I go that route...

I would contact a local hydraulic line supplier/maker. They are going to have suggestions for the high temps in your area. Most of these dudes are pretty helpful if you catch them during regular hours.

My whip is 300+ degrees. The old one is just too soft. When I tore it apart I found a barb with a crimp around it. The hose had just deformed enough to to jump out of the crimp. It is probable that I simply choose a poor material for the pigtail considering the compression heat.

I originally used a home-brew aluminum compressor mount but replaced it with 4x4truckled's bracket it is very secure, easy to install and allows the intakes to be near the wall and not over the engine. (probably a minor help).

I have the same compressor in the suitcase portable configuration and it does not get nearly as hot. Being heat soaked after a trail drive does not help. Just a higher starting point for the compression heat.
