So this is the issue. I have an ARB single compressor mounted on an American Adventure Labs Tailgate mount. The compressor is connected using AAL revised harness, power is ran up front to the battery. When the compressor is connected, it works fine. When I connect the pressure control system to it, it will not work. The air will not flow, no matter what setting the app is on. I called ARB, and showed pics of everything, and they are telling me it should work. They sent out another unit and I have the same problems.

1. The original unit through the app would show fluctuations in the volts. It would go from 8 to 12 all the time. The second unit is only showing 6.2~6.5 volts.
2. I have the ground attached to the screw holding the inside plate on the tailgate. There is nowhere else to put it.
3. I have checked, double-checked, and triple-checked the wiring. It is correct.

At this point I am wondering if I should just get the EZFlate external hook-up for airing up the tires and call it a day. Taking the compressor in and out is not fun, plus the scratches you get from trying to mount it.......even with the area taped it can happen.

So does anyone have the system? Can someone point me in a direction? The whole 6v variance is a worry, and I think that may be the reason why my system is not working correctly. It is fine without the pressure controller. It all works as it should. With it, not so much. I find it hard to believe two units are bad. Below are some pics.

1. The orange and purple wires placement has been corrected. I went over that with ARB, but still no joy.

Below PIC is where I am putting the ground for the pressure control module. The power wire has a piggie back that connects to the ARB switch.

Thanks for any help advice in advance.

Could be a bad unit. ARB is said to have had QC problems with that controller, at least according to many negative reviews I read when buying mine. I took the chance though and I set it up just like the directions said with no problems.

I don't know if grounding on the tailgate itself is a good idea. I mean, it's connected to the body via a hinge, so it's not a solid connection and there's no good way to get one without running a wire yourself. You don't have to go all the way back to the battery - there is a good ground behind the passenger cargo panel where the power point / cargo lamp is if I recall, and you can run that wire right along the rest of the tailgate wiring.

Now, I say that, and your compressor seems to run fine otherwise... so maybe I'm just tilting at a windmill here. Is your compressor grounded to the same spot? If your compressor runs a red/black all the way up to the battery, then you can ground this kit on the black wire of your compressor and piggyback on that.

If you mean me, my application for this device is underhood in a 4Runner, so my install doesn’t match his. I was just commenting on the device issue.

As an aside, I don’t ground anything to my Bronco tailgate, and even if the kit said so - good grounds are on the main chassis and frame.

@B22-2023 - no, not at you. To the OP, after I read the above - just my first thought.

OK. Well the ground for the compressor is in the spot of your pic, which is what they call a ground for the vehicle. I would need to run a long wire back to that location, so I would also need to take quite a few things apart to get back to the location, as well as buying wire to run it back.

I wonder about this because the first controller I had did get to 12v, but it was fluctuating widely. This one does not even get over 6. It is interesting about the QC of the product. Perhaps I have been unlucky.

@Brian_B : The red and black wire, the red goes all the way to the front to the battery, the black is to the ground you show. Are you saying to put the ARB controller ground wire by opening the black and attaching it to that wire for the ground?

Yes - If there is a way you can use a jumper or something to temporarily test it just to see if that works before splicing in or doing anything permanent, I’d recommend that too

I would like to thank all who answered in this thread and a shot out to @Brian_B! What you suggested worked!

Lol now my Voltage says it 14.5. Lol. tested it all with a regular old-school gas station-type filler, and BAM! It all worked. It started to drizzle on me and by that I mean rain...It's Miami....so I got her all buttoned up and finished.

Again thank you. I was about to throw the towel in on this one, several times, but I decided I would not go down so easily. Especially after airing up my girl's Bronco, I was thinking..."Ok, it would have been great for the pressure system to work." It also reconfirms that I suck at all electrical things.

Not sure why I did not think of what @Brian_B suggested myself. Meh it's all good. I learned something and that is my takeaway!

If it starts beeping and counting down, don’t forget my advice to cut the red wire. :D
