No, but seriously, play it and about the 2-4 second mark you hear it
Just listened to it. That was the sound of me dropping the plug.

nah .. you can use them over and over again.

I have 44K on my wife's 2018 Lariat with no issue .. same plug

i read somewhere that the oil pan plugs are single use items and are suppose to be replaced every oil change

Pictures please......
In the video you can see the tabs on the oil pan at the 3 and 9 o'clock position. I pushed the plug all the way in with the plug ear on the bottom side of the tab at 3 o'clock. In this position the plug should have one gone part way in then you rotate the plug clockwise 180 degrees to lock it in. Attached is a pic of what it should look like locked in

Someone mentioned the Ronin plug and I found an install video for it that shows the internal pan pins and how the plug locks into place. The stock plug works the same way. Once I get it back I will be installing one of these at the next change.

Edit to add vid I forgot to post.

I was surprised to find my 2.7T Chevy Silverado had a plastic pan with a plastic plug....I always replace the plug when I change the oil just to be safe.

So when you put it in does it not turn or does it pull right back out? mine has had a drip of oil occasionally from around the drain plug i noticed when i peeked under the skid plate once. Now you have me paranoid before i bring it in before its first oil change. If its doing the same thing i'd hope its covered under warranty. I've seen what the drain plugs look like before, they don't appear to have a locking position so do they lock in or do they just hold in tightly and can be pulled out? i've got a bunch of free oil changes but i'd like to know what i'm watching for.

You can press it all the way in at any position and turn it all you want with it being fully bottomed out. You can pull it out in any position, there are no pins in the inside hole of the pan to lock the plug in.

oh ok. I'll have to ask them when i have them do my change next week. I'd hate to have something happen and it drop out. I wonder if there is a rubber clamp you could wrap around those tabs and the pan to hold it just in case. This shit has me nervous now that i know mine has had a small drip around the plug.

from what i've seen of those plugs where they "thread" in they don't look to really lock. They don't have a notch to lock them in but appear more to have those to guide the plug into the correct position but i don't see anything that would really prevent them from pulling out without having to twist them, if you tried. i could be wrong maybe a tech can explain. Or do the outer tabs do the locking in place in conjunction with the inner tabs. I'm just trying to determine what actually holds them in and see if anything looks out of the ordinary with mine. Why plastic pans with plastic twist lock plugs... such a dumb and brittle design

The plastic drain plugs are very easy to install by hand. The video below is of an F-150 2.7L engine, but it uses the same type of drain plug. Just watch the first 20 seconds or so…

So I hit 5,000 miles and went to do my 1st oil change and tire rotation. Pulled the filter then went to pull the pan plug and that's when it went to hell! The plug just twisted and did not ride out on the pins, stayed fully seated and rotated 180 degrees to the stops. Was able to just turn it from stop to stop with staying fully seated. This was all done by hand. Since it wasn't trying to ride out on the pins and I could not get a grip to pull it out by hand I grabbed pliers and was able to pull it out by just twisting back and forth.

Attached vid shows being able to just push the plug back in. Ran my finger on the inside and do not feel any pins for the plug to lock onto.

Waiting on a tow to the dealer and then the wait. They already said they are booked out for 3-4 weeks.

Did you try righty tighty lefty loosey? The spot you put the plug in is when its loose then it turns clockwise from there and snaps tight on the other side of those ribs.
