That video reminds me of how much I miss my Scouts.
I'm ready to sell the Bronco and restomod a Scout with a modern drivetrain. Something with the smooth power of the 345 but maybe not weighing 700 lbs.
If VW "Blazers" the Scout it's going to fail bigley. It's too specific and iconic to duplicate too far outside the original box.

I remember back in 1973 we were buying alot of new Big 4x4 tractors and farm equipment. As we were finishing up the sale the dealership owner just gave us a new 1972 Scout II as a thank you.

My Grandfather got stuck in his F100 trying to get out of his ranch back in '78 outside of San Antonio when they had a 100 year flood. He called up the local IH dealer in town and had them bring him out a Scout. He never drove it much but we loved taking it around the ranch.

cools video but an EV for off road? Kind of like the Jeep commercial with the charger in the middle of the desert. Will that really ever happen. Also, looks like american made which is awesome but the batteries will come from China right?

Finally, I believe the commercial stated that scout helped defend the nation…but in what capacity?
jeeps are obvious and Ford competed for the design, Dodge had the power wagons, Chevy had the blazers/pickups and the new ve is based on a canyon. I just don’t recall the Scouts

Like the Bronco is pushing the Wrangler to evolve, I believe the all electric Scout will push Ford to come out with an electrified Bronco by the end of this decade. I can envision the new Scout being my first ever electric vehicle, if they do it right.

This is not VW "pushing Ford" - this is VW keeping up with Ford.

All these 'manufacturing' compaines are really good at marketing where it is easy to promise the World.....but actual manufacturing? Not so much.

The batteries will be made in either the US or Canada. Although likely with a partnership with a Chinese owned conglomerate like CATL. So, US made Chinese batteries.

.... "US Made, Chinese batteries" - what does that even mean?
Whats more important to USA?
1) CATL keeping battery manufacturing intelectual property secret, while a US company keeps the lions share of the profit ? Or :
2) Waiting for the US to ramp up its ability to make batteries, and fall further behind? So the US can own both intelectual property and the margin?

Seems pretty logical to get going asap - then learn how to do it at scale.
**Much like Chinese companies do by hosting US companies within their country.....

It's going to be made in America at an all new factory is what I had read.
I'm not an EV guy but have been a lifelong VW guy so I'm 50-50 at this point....
The idea of carrying around a generator on longer trips to emergency charge is the hold up....

That's right ,building a multibillion $$ factory just north of Columbia, SC along I-77. Timeline to begin production is 36 months or so. There is also talk of a battery manufacturer locating in SC to support production of the Scout and other EV's produced here in SC.

Only time will tell if this is a good development. Someone will make a pot of money finding out. Just hope it turns out better than the Carolina Panthers new headquarters project.

I guess the thousands of children forced to mine cobalt technically have “skin in the game” as well…just never see them represented in any of the EV promotions.
