Well duh! But if you’re wheelin’ alone without a winch, they can save you from a lot of digging.
I have friends to Help dig.

Nope, the sands in our deserts are very fine, dry and light. Created by wind, not water.
Gotta dig deep to bury your spare. Easier to float on top with a traction board.

Im absolutely correct. Youre just confused.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Im talking about when there is nothing to anchor yourself to. The desert is flat with nothing but small rocks. Stop trying to win an argument that nobody is having.

Nothing but soft sand for hundreds of miles. you cant bury a spare deep enough. If you've never been than you wouldn't understand. It's not like the beach.

We have no winch and just this week got a screaming deal on 2 pairs of ARB TRED PRO. We also haven't been stuck yet ! I know that if these are the 2 choices to get you unstuck the boards will be deployed, used and put away before you get you cable/rope unspooled.

Literally, 6g users can argue about anything, said the pot to the kettle. 👀

I was in a situation on a mountain side, early in the morning when I pulled over on a soft shoulder and got stuck in what was NOT solid ground. This was in my pickup a few years back. Sunk down about a foot. After a couple hours, a kind gentleman pulled me out with a tow strap, even though his wife seemed very displeased...

In this situation, I could've definitely used traction boards. I would've needed a shovel, too. Very doubtful I'd have a winch (still don't know I'd want one on my Bronco either). That's the only time I can think of I might've used either of those tools. However, keeping traction boards and a shovel aboard is both cheaper and easier to do, even though they take up a lot of space.

I guess one other time I could've used a traction board when I got a flat and the jack kept slipping out (literally almost crushed my arm in the wheel well).

If I did more stairs or needed something for a jack to sit on, I would probably try to get some. I don't think I'd ever use two sets (or even more than one?).

I've avoided jumping in this thread due all of the I know what you need better than you do.

To go back to original question, had a situation this winter where we could've used 4 but only had 2. I live high up in the mountains, 12 miles from nearest cell service and access via Forest Service road. We get 20 to 30 feet of snow annually. All 3 vehicles at our house carry recovery boards, not for self recovery but to help all the unprepared townies that come up here. Average recovering 3 to 4 of those each winter. This past December an Amerigas propane delivery truck without chains decided he needed to turn around on the narrow FS road rather than continue on 200 more yards to the entrance to our neighborhood. He was headed up hill when he chose to try. He managed to get completely crossways in the road with back wheels in the left hand ditch. I came up behind him. Parked about 50 yards downhill, got boards and walked up. One of my neighbors was parked up above him. Even if we had a winch, there is no way I would've winched him straight on a downhill slopes icy road. We used my boards to ease his rear wheels out of the ditch. He had no steering at all due the ice so we had to make 3 or 4 attempts before we get the truck headed sort of downhill and rear wheels out the ditch. Switched boards to front wheels at that point to provide traction for steering. 4 boards would've saved up about 20 minutes.

I also carry straps, kinetic ropes, hard and soft shackles. Boards are always first choice we go for.

I have used 4 several times. Helped a Gladiator get out of a muddy beach situation. It took multiple attempts but if I had extra boards I could’ve built a bridge. Last week we had to get a boat into the lake past the ramp and used all 4 to keep it from sinking…..I could’ve used an extra pair because the tandem axle was the length of two boards end to end
