Sorry to hear about your Bronco. Keep us posted when you find out what happened. Thanks!
I think OP has a Badlands though, which comes stock with the advanced 4x4 tcase? Which means it should be fine for pavement driving in 4wd. Unless OP had the vehicle set for the hardcore 4wd mode with tcase locked. Even with that though, I would not like to see the tcase granade from some pavement turning. My older tcases such as Dana 300 and even Dana 18 could handle that.
By driving 4WDR, I meant driving down the street doing around 10-15 mph due to icy roads to grab some donuts. We didn't drive it around town and actually when we got home I put it 2wdr. I showed my fiancƩ` how to change the GOAT settings to slippery just incase she was in a tough spot. We didn't even come close to taxing anything in the bronco.

While it might be a little different scenario, there have been customers that have been able to get car payment reimbursement (or at least say they are) while their bronco is down for extended periods of time. If you have time, check out the blown motor thread as it has some info in regards to speaking to Ford (not a dealer) to help get things moving along and with get reimbursements as well (extended warranty, rental car cost, car payments). While I hate being a squeaky wheel, I feel this is justified considering the circumstances.
Thanks I will look into this, I have a truck to get around too to move my kayak but I was going to see if they will cover my monthly payments.

there is a national shortage of qualified technicians.

A lot of the senior master techs are aging out and young people with the desire or aptitude to learn are few and far between.

techs are getting out of the business entirely.

my shop typically has little to no turnover and I lost two techs in the past year to other industries.

it doesnā€™t help that the cars keep getting more and more complicated and the amount of ā€œclerical workā€ and jumping through hoops getting approval to fix them has increased exponentially.

all the parts are on back order tooā€¦ which doesnā€™t help.
In summary, the job doesn't pay enough so people don't want to do it.

All the dealerships are in the same mess....not just Ford
Thatā€™s odd, I took my Jeep into the dealership last week for an oil change and walked right in, got what I needed and left an hour later. No crazy lines, no one else waiting, and no pile up of cars waiting to be serviced.

Wanted to try to give a little insight on the bottom question, the mechanics are aging out. And there isnt enough new coming in to replace them and not only that but the knowledge is going with them.

All the new stuff is mostly changing parts out not actually needing to be a mechanic.
I was in full agreement right up until the last sentence WHICH COULDN'T BE ANY FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. If anything some techs are leaving the industry because diagnosis on a modern vehicle has become so difficult and time consuming. Combine this with low warranty repair times and the flat rate pay system (techs who struggle with a difficult problem or are slower on diagnosis & repairs may for example may work for 40 hours but only be paid for 25 or 30 of them.) & they practically have to be IT specialist to diagnose and repair a modern vehicle. It is difficult to get parts and response times from the tech support engineering hotline these days is often be measured in days instead of minutes or hours.

Threads like this remind me to keep my 36 year old car around for backup as it can be fixed with zip ties and duct tape.

Not only is it just changing parts to see if that works but most modern vehicles will tell you exactly what's wrong
LOL. you have no idea.

If it were as easy as you say then the techs wouldnā€™t be leaving the business. It just doesnā€™t add up.

Only playing devils advocate here. When you got home and put it back into 2H, did you do that after you parked and just shut off the Bronco? Anytime the transfer case is shifted it needs to be driven at least 20ft.

I agree I have been feeling the same this week after reading all the "Broken Bronco" posts...

I ordered a Bronco and it is my first Ford purchase. I am accustomed to Toyota and Honda quality so I could never choose a Jeep based upon the low reliability ratings I saw on the internet. I am taking a chance on the Bronco in hopes that the quality will be better than Jeep.

I like numbers and data. Is there anyway to post a poll on this forum that Bronco owners could fill out?

I would really like to know what percentage of new Bronco's have been towed, I don't want to be out in the middle of Utah or Nevada w/o cell coverage and have issues.... If it is 2% I could live with it, if it is 5% or more I will probably reconsider a 4 Runner...

None of that is true. But whatever narrative you want to keep is for you.

No I showed her while driving up the street so it moved further than 20ft.

The stuck between 2H & 4H sounds similar to an issue I had last month and posted about. In my case, it got stuck trying to shift into 4L, and operated like it was in 4L, 4L and 2H both were flashing. I had it towed, dealer cleared the error code, and has worked fine since. It might be a simple fix if the dealer is willing to take a few minutes to plug it in and look at it.

Iā€™m the service manager at a chain of Ford dealerships.

Iā€™ve been a Ford tech, service advisor, and manager exclusively at Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealers for the last 26 years.

Iā€™ve only dedicated my lifeā€™s work to Ford Service. But what would I knowā€¦. Iā€™m sure YOU are the expert in this conversation. Lol.

what exactly are your credentials?

& sorry to OP for hijacking the original thread
Fine with me, I was just sharing what happened to me and my situation.

This reminded me of my trip to Off-Roadeo. My bronco went all crazy with the 4WD system, it was a BadSquatch. The Bronco froze up and would not move. Instructor came over and did the following and it was all good again. Put in park, turn off vehicle, exit, lock, unlock, lock, enter, start, repeat again. Everything cycled out, but who knows!
