Sync 4 going away

Not sure what MY this will be effective - or how this impacts those of us stuck with Sync 4 and the long-promised Major Update to fix all the issues. Article mentions that it may not go into effect until as late as '28 (my guess would be to coincide with any major generational change)

It'll probably make it easier for Ford to stick all of this stuff behind a Pay Wall. Not like they are doing this just to make their customers happy.

Speaking of which, isn't Ford due to throw on their mid-year Bronco price increases? Another norm for them.

Honestly I'd be happy with just a dock to stick my phone in on the dash and that be all. I don't want an infotainment onboard system to really do much of anything at all, and I haven't seen one that does anything that my phone can't already do better.**

**apart from when they use the system to remove physical buttons, like climate control, and I ~despise~ that.

I’m completely content with only CarPlay. I don’t use Ford’s system in mine and I never use any other manufacturers when I rent cars for work. I think most people lean that way too

Well CarPlay isn’t going away-this is just a replacement for the sync 4 OS, but I’m really curious as to how many people actually use it instead of CarPlay or Android Auto, since I figure that at least 90% of car buyers have a smartphone

That’s what I’m saying is I couldn’t care less about the OS. I bet less than 20% of people actually use Sync. I wish they would just build around CarPlay and CarPlay expand what you can do with it

My wife didn't even know how to get to Sync to set the audio settings. Android Auto comes up when she starts the car, and that's all she ever sees.

You say this--but is this just the first step to going where GM went (and where Tesla is), ditching AA/CP completely in favor of their control-freak system that is no doubt covered by a paywall?

I wish I grew up in an era where Ford, as well as others cared about high HP numbers and design. Now we get touchscreens and what they can charge you for monthly. Kinda sad.

Agree. I’ve been a car and motorcycle geek for 50+ years. I’m really not that interested in reading about the latest 700 HP pickup or 3 ton EV sedan. Cars, and to a lesser extent motorcycles have become very appliance like. But an old article about a 429 SCJ Torino Cobra or a ‘69 GTO or Corvette will be devoured immediately. Crazy, but cars were a lot more fun when they were a lot less perfect.

I get it. I've always said that music was much greater when the musicians and the groups were way less perfect--no corporate Taylor Swift crap, just a bunch of not great looking guys having a good time, creating amazing music and moments for the world.

Oh--and Linda Ronstadt and Stevie Nicks. Taylor Swift writes whiny songs about her exes; Stevie Nicks made her ex play guitar while she sang songs about what an a-hole he was.

The new system is Android based so it should be better but really as long as it has CarPlay I don’t really care what’s behind it.
