You say this--but is this just the first step to going where GM went (and where Tesla is), ditching AA/CP completely in favor of their control-freak system that is no doubt covered by a paywall?

“We’re committed to keeping Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. Ford customers love the features because they help keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel,” Farley stated on X.

Exactly. Corporate America lies to your face for their own reasons, while simultaneously preparing for something the exact opposite--to be revealed when they deem it proper.

And you know this Sync replacement has been on the drawing board for many years.

so...you believe Farley? Really? You've never seen corporate America lie to your face for their own reasons, while simultaneously preparing for something the exact opposite--to be revealed when they deem it proper?
Nah I don't waste my time obsessing over things I have no control over or won't impact me for years down the road.

or, a year down the road when you buy something else but find out it's actually more expensive thanks to paywalls.

Death by a thousand cuts.

I’m completely content with only CarPlay. I don’t use Ford’s system in mine and I never use any other manufacturers when I rent cars for work. I think most people lean that way too
CarPlay all day. To easy not to use.

Nah I have two new vehicles with the oldest one being almost 3 years old. I keep my cars awhile, so zero impact for me for at least another 5 years or so.

Ford might charge you for something (Bluecruise for example) but the backlash that has happened with other things have made manufactures change course. Their is smarter ways of up charging for services in a vehicle vs putting say heated seats behind a paywall.

oh yea, Maybe go outside and touch grass?

Absolutely. If the screen was more customizable and app developers added more features to it, it would be significantly further ahead than it already is.

I'm very tempted to try one of the CarLink Android kits that @BigMeatsBronco uses, as I think it lets you bypass a lot of Android Auto/Carplay limitations by running a full Android client on the screen

Honestly I'd be happy with just a dock to stick my phone in on the dash and that be all. I don't want an infotainment onboard system to really do much of anything at all, and I haven't seen one that does anything that my phone can't already do better.**

**apart from when they use the system to remove physical buttons, like climate control, and I ~despise~ that.
Agree 100% with this. I would even take a Bronco with no electronics. Analogue dash, push button radio would be just fine with me.

This is also my use case and I suspect you are correct that this is true for most people. The only think I want the vehicle’s OS to do is run CarPlay effectively. Currently Sync 4 has so many issues that it keeps my CarPlay from working as it should some days. And this past week, when I updated to iOS 18.4.1, I lost wireless CarPlay entirely. It’s pretty clearly an Apple problem as my wife’s phone which wasn’t updated works fine still. Prior to this, my problem has been Sync 4 crashing and taking down CarPlay with it. Seems to be related to temperature for some stupid reason. So if whatever replaces Sync 4 does is more stable and lets me run CarPlay with fewer crashes and glitches, that’s really all I want.

It’s crazy how many people I see have issues with CarPlay. I wonder if it’s more dependent on the screen than the CarPlay system. Do you have the bigger screen? That’s what I have and the ONLY time I ever have connectivity issues is when I go to the airport. I think there is a lot of background noise there that causes it.
(Engineer for a forklift company and we see it with our telematics system all the time. They’ll act goofy for no reason but an OS reload clears it up)

It's more, alot more, turns your mainscreen into a tablet, browsing the web, reading emails, downloading PDFs, printing and stand alone GPS and cellular connection, sim card, SD card, the list goes on and on...all easy with the carlink boxes.

for example, I downloaded warn winch app from play store, now I can control the winch from the Broncos main screen...pure awesomeness

Never had CarPlay issues with several BMW’s. My Honda has a pretty mediocre UI but wireless CarPlay has been very reliable. CarPlay issues are usually UI based or individual phone related.

💯 Agree. I’ve been a car and motorcycle geek for 50+ years. I’m really not that interested in reading about the latest 700 HP pickup or 3 ton EV sedan. Cars, and to a lesser extent motorcycles have become very appliance like. But an old article about a 429 SCJ Torino Cobra or a ‘69 GTO or Corvette will be devoured immediately. Crazy, but cars were a lot more fun when they were a lot less perfect.
You all should be use to by now, I mean paying for all the extras, I don't care either, but what choices will we have. Remember free TV... now🤑🤑🤑🤑 and it is not getting any cheaper
