4A has gotten me through plenty of miles of unmaintained seasonal backroads with over 2 feet of snow. Lockers and 4L got me out of a few really bad spots. But 4A can probably handle 90% of the non-rock crawling stuff. Even highways with sections of snow and ice from where the plows and salt didnt get too, makes hitting those areas way more controllable.

4A is suited for pavement and light off use offroading. Personally I rarely use it since I know when I do and when I don't need to be in 4WD- about the only time I find it handy is when there is 2 or 3 inches of slush on the road --after a storm. Since 80% of my miles are off road the clutching of the 4A function never allows a true 50/50 split of power to the front and rear.

I won't lie, if I had 4A I'd probably use the heck out of it too.

That said, I don't feel like I need it or I missed out - it's just awfully convenient "set and forget" thing, and the fact that it has a slightly lower low range is icing on the cake.

I had 4A on my Silverado, and it was great for set and forget. No issues with it. It was nice to have in a pick-up truck, where the back-end tends to kick out more in slippery conditions.

4A is great when roads suck. I almost never use the GOAT modes, although I'm sure they work great, I manually do things, just because I find it easier. The Bronco definitely feels more planted using it, love it.

Sport and Slippery modes benefit 4A with engine and transmission performance management changes you can’t achieve manually… Sport mode increases accelerator pedal response and provides a sportier steering feel. The powertrain system holds onto lower gears longer, helping the vehicle accelerate faster. Slippery mode lowers throttle response and optimizes shifting for slippery surfaces.

I wheeled in various condition's for a couple of hours today. When I was not in 4L tiptoeing over rocks/ledges/very steep terrain, I was in 4A - even in sport mode at one point having fun in the sand. Not sure I will always do this (clutch life, etc.), but it works.

After airing back up I drove home in sport mode 4A….this thing is too much fun :)

I drive in 4A 90% of the time in all conditions. I call it "Subaru mode".
I do like the way my Subi grips the road…I have to try out 4A when it rains.

I wonder if 4A is different for Manual then Auto. I feel like all wheels are pulling
I'm curious about this as well. On the power distribution screen my manual is showing equal power to all four corners in all gears.

The problem I have with 4a is the time it takes send power to the front wheels .I find the bronco rear wheels lose traction alot .So I use 4 h in ice and snow!
That seems odd. Mine sends power to the front seamlessly and quickly. We had about 10 inches of sleet, snow and ice this past week and I never had a reason to use anything but 4A. Everything was fully covered so I could’ve used 4H without any damage to the drivetrain, but I didn’t need to.

I watch the power distribution screen in my manual all the time and it does seem funky at times. No power at all to the front, the equal distribution when there is no reason to be using the fronts at all. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but I've seen it do some backwards stuff.
