Playing CDs has come up a few times on here, and I always wondered if a USB CD Drive could be plugged into the USB and work, Kind of like plugging in an MP3 player or even just a USB thumb drive with music on it. Well, I just got a DVD/CD RW drive because my oldest is going into music theater camp tomorrow and they sent some songs she needs to be familiar with. My kids are 8 and 5, and we don't want them having devices and too many distractions, so they have CD players in their rooms and CDs to listen to, and I got the drive to burn a CD with the songs my 8yo needs to listen to instead of giving her a device.

So, since I now have a USB CD drive again, I thought I'd plug it in to the Bronco and see what happens. And nothing - I got a message that the USB device was not responding. Just in case anyone was wondering ;)

Oh, and it didn't work in my RAM either ;)

Well, it makes sense to at least try it since all the connection points are there. Put the songs as MP3’s on a flash drive and you’ll never listen to anything else. Unlimited songs, no loss of signal, no commercials, skip whatever you’re not in the mood for. It’s worth the effort.

A standard usb cd-r/rw drive is not really compatible with vehicles, as you've discovered. They are designed for pc data transfer. Even if it worked, you would find that even mild bumps on the road would disrupt the players ability to read the disc, causing skips or track resets.

There are mobile players designed specifically for use in vehicles. Cheap ones can be gotten for ~$50, but they compress the data transfer even more, so the music is no longer 'cd quality'.

And speaking of quality, mp3 is one of the worst formats ever created if you care about music. 🎶

I have a 2022WT with LUX.The 2 USB ports on top of the dash are for charging only-need to use The USB ports in the area in front of the gear shifter below the front panel as they work for accessories .Mine from Amazon + basic plug in + follow a few directions on the screen.Works great for an old guy with lots of CD's + very little Tech Savvy.Just may need a USB extension cable depending on where you want the player to sit.Only drawback is you have to push eject button on player as I have found no other way to eject CD.No problems with skipping while driving but have not used on any hard core trails.Any time it is connected + you want to listen to radio 0r something else you just use source on audio screen.
