Why didn't Ford offer rolling rear window?

How do you explain the frameless passenger doors then?

By the fact that there isn’t also a 100lb wheel and tire bolted to the side of them?

Didn't the original late 70s Bronco have rolling rear window?
It seems Ford could have done better than just copy the same tailgate and window from Jeep. Why not put a rolling window in the rear so it can be opened up for occasional long items or to cool the inside with the top on?
This is one favorite feature that Toyota 4Runner has offered for years.

I think a few of the replies nailed Different part of the issue.
- First, the tailgate is reinforced. A 37” tire and wheel are ~100 lbs of weight dangling back there that will have to handle drops and impacts on the trail.
- Second, off road the vehicle is going to twist and flex a lot. With the top and body separate components, they will flex a bit independently. If the top goes one way and the body goes another and the window is *connected to the top*: no problem. Connected to the body: problem.
