So I agree it is annoying and if it wasn't so noticeable I would probably tolerate it , so also to consider is the auto transmission that I was not aware of and someone correct me if I am wrong is that an electric pump either comes on or is running all the time to maintain pressure to apply clutches to keep it locked in first gear as the engine turns the trans pump to pressurize the system. It makes sense , but have not heard of but one person mentioning this as part of the operation. Maybe these new trans have an electric pump as part of the normal operation.
I also watched a video saying that Toyota counts the number of start/stop operations and set an engine code when that set value is met and you are required to go to the dealership to replace starter even if it is working fine. They also have to reset the counter. True or not I would not be surprised if that is how it works.
They have an electric pump to assist in the start/stop is activated only. The mechanical pump is what runs the transmission in normal run operation, from what I read:
" The auxiliary transmission fluid pump does not have enough flow to engage the clutch, but can only hold the clutch in the engaged position when the engine stops and the main oil pump stops supplying pressure "
