So my car has about 1500 miles on it and already the windshield is chipped to shit, the first week I got it I got two on the driver side one being directly on my field of view, they are pretty tiny but big enough to annoy the crap out of me especially for having the car a month only have windshield ppf coming in but don’t wanna put it on a chipped up windshield is it the shape of the car that makes it a chip and bug magnet seriously considering getting a new windshield and then installing the ppf looking for some insight thanks

I'm on windshield #8, last I checked.

To help shorten this thread, here's everything that'll get mentioned:

1. ditch the ford glass, it's butter-soft. No, the bronco logo doesn't matter. Get Pilikington or Fuyao
2. the hood deflector kinda works
3. it's basically a wear item
4. learn to patch the impacts yourself
5. it's still a brick.
6. exoshield won't help, it also yellows over time. Granted, you'll never see it yellow, because the rock will have busted your windshield long before that time.
7. there is no 7

The Bronco has the aerodynamics of a brick. Compare it to the rake of almost any other modern vehicle windshield and the Bronco's is practically straight up. Without something to divert the airflow, anything flying at you at that height is going to hit the windshield.

Not a perfect solution, and the look isn't for everyone, but the Aeroshield II hood protector has a bump/ridge on it that redirects the airstream just enough to prevent (at least some) bugs and pebbles from making (as hard of) contact.

PPF is another popular option. A little more expensive, but provides a physical barrier.

Having both the hood protector and ppf would minimize the number of objects hitting and protect from the ones that do. But there will still be hits. It's still a brick.

Also know that a lot of chips can be filled and become near-invisible, or at least prevent them from getting worse (cracking). That service is typically free (deductible waived) through your insurance. Any auto glass company can process the claim and do the repair, you don't talk to your insurance. And many of them will come to you to perform the service. Depending on how clean/invisible the repair is, it might be possible to apply ppf over it. Ask about that when scheduling the repair.

I would only differ by considering the Ford glass not butter-soft, but peanut brittle.

The Brick-o has a steep windshield, so strikes are more likely to do damage and not glance off.

The Goodyear MT tires throw a terrible amount of rocks too. You dont have to be following anyone to get a glass ding. Ive seen it happen right before my eyes....

My favorite glass repair kit at this point is unfortunately a single use deal but it works the best of the few Ive used. Permatex glass repair kit can be purchased for $10 on RockAuto or about $20 in an auto parts store. Keep one in the glove box.

I bought the Rain-X kit. Used it to repair a chip which vanished. I've also repaired a few scratches. Other kits work. I bought the Rain-X because it will do more than one repair.

Stay at least 2 seconds behind the car in front of you, windshield chipping will reduce by 95%.

I follow the 2 second rule, my '21 BaseSquatch has 0 chips and the original windshield.

I stay away from big trucks. The 2 second rule is also a good idea. So far one small chip which I repaired.

Don't make an insurance claim. They'll "forget" it was just a windshield patch, "no record of it," and you'll get all sorts of grief in the future because you made a "claim."

25 years ago GEICO ran a "special" of not viewing proactive windshield patch as a claim. Of course, a couple years later they forgot all about that special, no record of it, and gave me all sorts of grief saying I made a claim.

All insurance situations can be unique, of course, and depend on specific circumstances. Generally speaking, though, they'd much prefer waiving deductible w/ no penalty for chip repair than X amount more for a windshield replacement.

I've had good results having multiple chips filled on multiple vehicles (none in my Bronco...yet) with no adverse effect on insurance. Ymmv.

With decades of experience paying for insurance one thing i can guarantee is that it will always go up. And up. And up.

You need to change insurance companies. I've never had a problem.
