It was never that bad. My 60's and 70's Fords were far more reliable than anything I've owned in the last 10 years. Everything you mentioned was not the norm. Of the 16 f series trucks I've owned none of them were as bad as 10 mpg, none rusted out, no brakes ever locked up and never had any trouble starting in midwest winters, and they were not hard to drive. Dang sure never had to worry about software updates. And safety wise must have been ok after nearly 60 years I'm still here.
And I have had zero problems with any car made after 2005. Nothing except changing brakes and oil in the last twenty years. My Bronco works perfect, airplay connects every time, no leaky roofs, nothing that people complain about in this thread. So where does that leave us?

Maybe we know how to maintain vehicles and technology isn't the problem?

Either way, our anecdotal experiences aren't the norm and the problems people complain about actually exist. I was only making a counterpoint that it's not all stars & kittens owning an older vehicle.

As long as we are reminiscing, here are some ways I would have incorporated the old into the new.
A more traditional gauge package.
Full frame doors with vent windows.
Swing out spare tire carrier.
Fold down tailgate with retractable back glass.
But, ford didn’t ask me.

My first car had a manual transmission (yes!), manual steering, manual brakes, manual windows, manual locks, manual seats, plain key, idiot lights (ugh!), no a/c, no right-side mirror, etc. The most simple choice in this poll is positive luxurious by comparison.

My last 4x4 had power steering and brakes, a/c, and real gauges, but everything else was manual. That was just fine by me.

Both? 🤷‍♂️
When Offroad = old times

Daily pavement driving/my commuting = yes all the tech

Perfection for everyone's wants/needs is hard to achieve (mo'$).

I'm satisfied with the technology in my Basesquatch. I would prefer an interior of more painted metal surfaces and less plastic molding. I would prefer a tailgate with a swing out tire carrier, rather than a swing gate with a mounted spare.

With all the electrical gremlins and update issues, Would u give up modern tech? Simpler times circa 2000-2017 If it meant no/less problems.
Edit: Everything else on your Bronco is the same, Basically just no screen..lol my charging portals were dead from day 3, and screen is sketch anyway, did recently get the charger fixed.
I actually like having A screen, and being able to manage Nav, Entertainment, and settings in the same place. That said, I think most screens are too big, and there are too many of them. For me, anything above 8" or so is a bit silly and distracting. Of course, my wildtrak has the largest screen available, though I didn't order it that way....

Ah 2000 to 2017, the good old days. I need electronic ignition, fuel injection, disk brakes, modular wheel bearings, AC, CD, power locks and windows...that's about it

As others have stated 2000 isn’t old. Have they changed and added tech, sure.Vehicles had a major change in the mid 70s when they started adding emission controls like a band aid. That stuff never stopped coming.

If i were to cherry pick the features and technology it would be like this:
- electronic fuel injected engine with its own computer (think new crate engine for your rod) with corresponding automatic transmission
- disk brakes all around
- independent suspension (no electronics)
- no plastics in the interior or exterior
- manual hi/low 4x4 without the electronics/sensors
- air conditioning
- no airbags
- no sensors or computers for anything beside the powertrain mentioned
- power steering/ power brakes
- cavity in dash for your choice of radio or 3rd party electronics/gps etc.
- electric windows (been popular since the 50s)
- cupholders in center console (coffee is life)
- LED lighting
- basic analog gauges
- full frame / not unibody
- cruise control, if stand alone(like the 3rd party kits used to be)
