The Bronco uses at least 3 different types of fasteners and bolts to hold on the factory fender liner. And none of them are going to be good in the long term as dirt and debris renders the factory screw clips essentially unusable.

Do yourself a favor and swap out to fender liner clips that can be opened with just a flathead screwdriver.

The Ford factory screw clip is on the left, the replacement push-clip is on the right.

Note that for use of this specific clip, I had to ream out each factory clip hole from 1/4" to 5/16". On the steel frame I then dabbed a little touch-up clear coat from a paint pen to prevent rusting. On the aluminum fenders it's not required to add the clear coat.

These clips specifically are from my days track racing a Mitsubishi Evolution. The factory aero pan was held on by 38 (Yes, thirty eight!) Screw clips and would take about 45 minutes to remove if using the original clips. Converting to using this style clip I could remove the pan in under 5 minutes.

Now for Bronco, especially with the 2.3 engine, you need to pull some or all of the factory liner on the drivers front wheelwell for oil changes. This minor modification would have that process down to seconds.

Not pictured are the horrific zinc coated machine bolts Ford uses with a threaded clip on the mouse-fur liner itself under the fender lip.

Did you buy a specific pack on Amazon?

I see multi packs on Amazon and I saw one in Harbor Freight a few days ago too.

The reason why I didn't link to what I bought is that what I have are OEM Mitsubishi clips for the trunk liner of a 2006 Evo 9 (Yes, that specific), which were at the time, $3.49 for a pair. So what I'm using specifically won't be what people order.

Any push clip with a 1/4" post will work, and for the overall height what I'm using is a little short which makes the pressure and hold very tight, but less user friendly than if you got something readily available like this:

Note: I'm not endorsing the product above or saying it will work for Bronco, it's the correct type of clip but in metric so you'll need to convert the shaft width to SAE and see if it works for you. 1/4" will require you to drill out the holes to 5/16", but is a great fit.

The replacements have a little divot in the female flange for the screwdriver, right? Or were you just murderously stuffing the flat underneath them when you had to do your 5min aero pan pit stops?

Tolerance isnt an issue. The size of screwdriver you use is the measure for success and if it's a performance issue, grab the huge screwdriver to make jokes with your buddies holding your beer, but slip the small screwdriver in your palm since that's all which is required.

Lowe's at least at the Hutto, TX store caries a wide range of these fasteners, it's a life saver if you need one quickly.

Are you serious that you have to remove a fender liner to change the oil on the 2.3?

Freaking Subaru got it right by putting the filter on top:

And by the way, I've had 2 EVOs and 8 and a 10. Awesome cars!

Great idea. I've had my rears on and off about 3 times now in the last couple days trying to dial in the lift and half are buggered up. I've been installing them like push pins, not bothering to screw them in.

No not at all, I haven't had to touch the liner, just reach up from underneath the Bronco.

I just reach straight in from the wheelwell. There's a large gap in the liner and it's easy enough to reach in and do whatever needs done.

I haven't tried that, but I'm already underneath to drop the skid and drain the oil, might as well clean the drip rail and remove the filter while I'm down there. You can do the whole thing in one trip if you don't forget anything.

Now that you have that thing lifted to a proper height, you got to reach higher up to get that filter if you are on your back. I just find it easy to bend over the tire and do it through the wheelwell. I got short arms.

And if you're gonna use these, do yourself a favor and pick up some push-pin pliers. They can be had in straight or 90° and are infinitely better than dicking around a screwdriver.

Well I just did it in my driveway without taking anything off other than the skid plate for the drain plug. It wasn’t the most fun and jacking up the left side made it much easier to reach the filter.
