Bronco Concept Design: What if it ended up like this?

The Bronco concept that started the ball rolling was in 2004. Google Ford Bronco concept 2004.

Very futuristic but was still well received at the time. Where they landed 16 years later is clearly a home run.

That era of Ford concept cars was really cool for me as a kid. Between this, the Cobra concept, the GT40 concept, the Mustang concept car that previewed the S197 and the Shelby GR1, Fords design studio was on fire. Sucks they couldn't build them all though.

I've seen a few articles that claim if it wern't for Jim Hackett, Bronco Sport would have been Bronco.

Well then, ill drink to Jim Hackett.

If it had lockers front and rear, a disconnecting sway bar, and was comparable to the jeep in almost every aspect. I would still by it.

The 2004 Bronco concept - when explored for possible production - would have ended up as a Focus-based, C Segment crossover. The concept was designed and built without production intent.

Th exercise that became the Bronco Sport would have been the only surviving Bronco product under Fields' scaled back-efforts. Hackett saw the enthusiasm in the skunkworks team and told them bring their best.

The clay buck we see in the OP photo was one of a handful of possibilities that was designed. Wanting to avoid another Thunderbird (or Beetle), the amount of retro design cues to be incorporated was measured and studied. The final result is obviously a home run.

It if ended like that, I'd probably just buy a new Blazer.... and to answer your question, yes I'm a BRONCO guy! But at that point, why even bother.
